Title: Can I use these speakers ?
Post by Andrei.Hrubaru on 05/31/06 at 21:48:51

hy,

for a long time i have been thinking about making my own WO and now the time has come. i have one question though : can i use two Magnat Xpress 10" speakers ? are they suitable for the job ?

There really is no way for us to say yes or no.  Because there aren't really any specs that we know are needed.  The only advice you will likely get is to plug your driver into a modeling program, and see how the response looks in a 4th order BP with chambers the size of the WO's.  (Tuned to 45 hz)

Other than that, try it.  The design works with a wide range of woofers.

i'll do that but, seeing the pics, i now have a new question: do i have to use any damping? and the outside of the box should it be carpeted ? or should i leave it just plain simple ?

u said to tune it to 45hz, i'm a rookie, and i don't know how to simulate it. what parameter should be 45hz ?

is that the bandwidth ?

is these a good simulation response ?

salut DirtDawg

and now let's get down to bussines: who can explain it to me what should i try to obtain when simulating this box? i'm confused  ::)

4th order bandpass tuned to 45hz.

Use WinISD from LinearTeam.

If your sim is correct(I will check later here at work):

The subs should work pretty well.  The roll off is pretty gradual, and begins at 40hz.  Depending on the car your drive, you should start recieving Cabin gain right around there anyhow.  Perhaps even leveling the entire graph out.  At most it will be a small dip till 35 and then a very slow slope downward.  In other words, a relatively flat response in your car.

Couple the flat response with the speed and accuracy the WO gives subs, and I think you will be very impressed!

is there a problem if i intend to use these sub in my living room  ???
please check that simulation, i'm a rookie.10x

Unfortuneatly I cannt find all the specs.  Most sites I find are in German or something.

If you can give me the T/S parameters for the driver, I can check.

As far as living room, the gain will just start a little lower, depending on the size of your room.  Very small rooms begin earlier, large rooms much lower.  And there really is no way to tell what the room gain is going to accomplish.

After building it, if you are displeased with anything, simply move it around in the room.  Placing in a corner will laod the horn even better resulting in increased low end.  If the sub is for music mainly, you will not have any problems.

i've pm you a link with the data i used to simulate it.

i've simulated it again and i don't know if the box is tuned well :'(
I've got:

Fb=51.56
F3=30.5 and F3=86.84

and i obtained these results using the volumes as fallows Vb1=34.27 and Vb2=25.34. I've calculated the volumes the chambers really have and my results are vb1=31.7 and Vb2=22.2 (that is for the 36"x36" WO).

can anyone help me ?! :-/
