Title: Subs too big!!
Post by hijinx7200 on 03/01/06 at 01:45:44

In order to use my 12 inch MA Audio sub in the DB I have to make it a half inch bigger because of the funky surround on the sub. Do I have to make EVERYTHING a half inch bigger to compensate or not. thanks for any help.

you have to make the width of the square baffle bigger ?

Yea. The outer ring on my sub is a minimum of 13 inches across. The plans call for 12.5 inches inside main box. Do I have to make the ENTIRE box a half inch bigger? Taller, wider, port bigger, inner box longer to compensate for the half inch extra? Or just make it wider and leave everything else alone? Any help would be great. I want to cut the wood tonite but don't want to waste a bunch of time and money making a box that won't work.

I would just make the outer box and baffle large enough to fit your sub, i.e. 13 inches.  It won't change the geometry much at all.

It really is amazing what difference a good table saw makes as opposed to the ole skill saw :)
