Title: heres the plan ... will it work
Post by shayneyasinski on 02/07/06 at 02:22:25

http://img53.imageshack.us/my.php?image=myroom237ip.gif

here is my room

it is approx 1100 sq ft
the blue is ground level
the green is sunken 4 ft
the dark green is a step down
the red is below my picture screen and is about 16 ft wide.
I was thinking that 2 imperial subs facing out with the mouths together is the way to go.
i would lode them with 4 subs 2 each and give them about 1600 watts of comercial power
will this work???

Oh I think that'll generate enough bass for most folks.  The only problem you might have is that is a relatively small room for Imperials and you might end up with spots in the room where you'll get nulls due to cancellations.

Otherwise I don't think you need to worry about not having enough bass.  I've used them for live music outdoors and been able to create chest-thumping bass at a distance of 100 feet with half the power you plan to use.  If anything, you will probably have way more power than you will ever really use.  Except perhaps for those times you want to impress friends with a 120 db+ blast of bass for a few seconds.  The neighbors won't like you after too much of that though......unless you invite them also.

Do you ahve a barn to put them in?

For some reason I always picture two or four imperials in some barn on the sides of a stage playing loud music to a group of teenagers.

I hope those dimensions are for an old bomb shelter. I have read about people with setups very similar to your proposed one who have done structural damage to their homes.

my room used to house a swimming pool but it was only 5 ft deep so we opted for a large family room .

well that was when i was young .... then long story short my dad died of cancer and my mom 6 months later from a heart attack dad was 53 and mom 57.

so here i am with a big house and a wife that understands i need to keep busy.

so back to the room it is about 1100 sq ft with high cielings so not all that small and bigger that my friends barn.

so 2 or 4 may be just what is needed to make some bass.

ouch dude!
I buried both my Parents before they hit 55 and watched all but one aunt and uncle die over the next following years. Then some of my friends a couple years later.
It was kinda a interesting time. I had to raise my bother and become a mom and a dad. Took in a couple borders and life went on.

I like your setup and location, it sounds like there is alot to keep you busy. I think that 2 duals will do ya.
If not they can get bigger like twin 18" with a little widening.
that should crack something somewhere.

I have no idea how much your into this stuff but sometimes it just does not seem loud, but its damaging and you don't know it.
with the monsters and that room your going to be hitting some heavy SPL.
have fun. I look forward to pictures.

I have been around audio since i was 3 and my parents owned bars.
my hearing is still good so no hearing loss if thats what you ment??
all i want is good sound
i was the first to have a subwoofer system in a car and a  house.
so i have alot of friends in all areas of sound from shops to live sound guys not to mention alot of band friends that stop in from time to time to see my latest project
I also have started on a set of speakers to go with a 2 watt tube amp .
I love it all ...
i find it easy to go big and loud but more fun to go small and cheap but sound expensive.
there was a kid that had 4 12's 6 8's and 2 18's in a truck and i beat him with 2 15's in a box with a good amp and some math
this was an spl comp and i caused a riot of customers to my friends store.
the days of just sellem what we got not what they need was over.
I am here to learn new designs and to wow some friends while watching a movie

My dad died at 48, in 1997, I was 13. Mom's still around though turnin' 52 this year, I'm 22 next month.

I was the first in my family to get into the car audio scene, at 15. I have two older brothers, both of which I setup some MASSIVE systems for. My oldest brother has hit lower 160's with one 15" Kicker L7 in his S10, my design.

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about home theatre now, as I'm looking for a house to buy soon as I get married (next month) and would like to be one of those guys with a theatre that blows your mind, quality wise.
