I did a search of the forum and couldn’t find any results so starting a new thread on this topic.

I’m going down the rabbit hole of connecting my internet connection via fiber instead of Ethernet. Has anyone else here gone this direction and if so what has your experience been?

MM- Can you provide more detail on what your beginning plan and outcome goal is? Are you bringing fiber into the house or converting your router output from ethernet to fiber? I have played around quite a bit on the later.

I sure have. I experienced a noticeable improvement in sound quality, specifically in the areas of a blacker background, more relaxed, and increased dynamics, among others.

First I came out from the router into an inexpensive TP Link MC200CM media converter, run fiber to another TP Link converting back to Ethernet to the digital transport/streamer. This sounded better, and convinced me to invest more.

Next I upgraded to a better router, out to an "audiophile" Ethernet switch (Paul Pang Quad Switch with OXCO clocks and toroidal power supplies) to a better quality Ethernet-to-fiber converter (LHY Audio FMC Ethernet Purifier Optical Transceiver +OCXO), out to a better quality transport with Fiber In option (so I didn't require a second converter back to Ethernet).

I'm not sure Paul Pang is making switches anymore, but LHY has some great quality ones at relatively reasonable prices - by good qulaity I mean a switch made with OXCO clocks, great power supplies (not switch mode), and optional fiber In/Out (which is especially preferred if you have a transport/streamer with Fiber in).

So, short answer, I am a firm believer in creating as clean a signal as possible from the internet to your DAC, and incorporating Fiber, even at $125 for a couple converters and some fiber optic cable, is a worthy investment in sound quality improvement.
