Title: Zrock 3 introduced a buzz/hum from my speakers Post by abhishek on 07/29/25 at 06:01:02 Hi everyone, I just received my ZRock 3 which I have connected into my signal path which includes Eversolo DMP-A8 i2s --> Laiv Harmony uDac --> ZRock 3 via XLR-RCA cable with floating ground --> Ufo 2.1 over RCA. Seems like the output level on the back of the unit is causing the buzz/hum from my speakers. I have tried removing the DAC from the chain, played around with the output level and the front control knob, but all to no avail. Only when I turn down the output level in the back all the way down, does the buzz go away. Any thoughts on what I can be doing differently or what else I can try? I am waiting for my ZBIT. My speakers are the Omega Super 8 XRS and the Caintuck Betsys, both of which exhibit the same behavior. Title: Re: Zrock 3 introduced a buzz/hum from my speakers Post by Geno on 07/30/25 at 20:17:27 Hi Abhishek. Sorry about the issue. This type of thing can be the most aggravating thing about this hobby. The good news is, that it sounds like a ground loop to me, which is often easier to troubleshoot than a low 60hz hum. First, I would try slightly wiggling interconnects and power cable, while power is on, to see if the buzz will come and go. Next, I would try and move the Zrock away from the amp some, to see what that might do. Keep us posted, Geno |

I've also emailed Steve directly who suggested just connecting the ZR3 to the UFO, and remove the entire upstream signal path from the equation. I have tried that and no change in behavior. I have also tried to put both Ufo and ZR3 through a power conditioner, changed cables, and physical location ofthe ZR3 but nothing has helped unfortunately. The hum is still the same with the same intensity, and clearly audible from my listening position. When I remove the ZR3, the hum isn't audible. |

I think he's done all he can do, and he may have to send this back to Steve. It may be defective--I do believe there is a little bit of hum inherent in these components, but it shuoldn't be loud, it should be at maximum only audible from a very close distance. |
