Title: My first amp
Post by Empty on 04/17/25 at 18:37:06

Hello.
I am new on this forum, and new into diy. I have done some soldering, changing parts, fixing and tweaking, but never gone in to a real project. I have tried, but didi not have the time, the skills or the patience to make something serious out of it.
I have been into hifi/hi-end for many years and always wanted to learn the basics and understand, and make something out of it.
Suddenly, I have the time and the opportunity to go into a prosess like this. After some consideration I have decided to use the next months/years to learn and make (hopefully) build me my first amp.

I live in Europe so this is a 240V amp. I have received the z-kit board, and have spent some time looking at projects from other members. Very impressing :).
Since I live in Europe , I have to find the parts from here. I guess I will have a lot of questions about what I can use, and not.  I have some very good old tubes that started the whole idee. I will build the amp -SE-using EL84 and 6922.

Starting with the trafos.
I have contactacted Lundahl directly, and they are very helpfull. They have a good reputation and very good products.

The contactperson adviced using a LL1683 as mainstransformator. He thinks it will work well with the tubes and the construction.

As outputtransformers he advice 2x LL1663. I am not sure about this. The trafo operates well between 5-8Ohm. Not that well (teoretical) outside. In todays speakermarked, it is difficult to know what really happens, and I want to have a flexible amp.
He then recommend a pair of LL1679. They are more flexible and can also be used in other projects if I decide to to something else after a while.
Anyone knows about Lundahl and the trafos? Any advice to a novice who wants to learn :). I want to make my amp as flexible as possible, but I also want it to be good sounding. If I have to choose, I go for the best sound.
I appreciate all help, and hpoe I can contribute with something here myself. One thing, keep it simple. I can be a slow learner ::).

After some advices from the nice people at Lundahl, I have decided which transformers I will go for. LL1663 as outputtransformer and LL1683 as mainstransformer.
However they need some information I am not able to find on the forum.
I am going to use EL84 and 6922 tubes. I do not if that has something to say, but it is a 240V design since I live in Europe.
Lundahl needs to know (from google translate) direct current in mA.

Please advise :).

Best Regards.

240V, 50/60Hz. line to 600V (300-0-300) at 200mA center tapped, 6.3V at 4A and 5V at 3A

Keep us posted. I’ve long been a fan of Lundahl transformers and wondered how they would perform in this circuit.

Cheers!

Thank you :).
I will post along my prosess. I have found a very nice wood to use as base. Photos will come.

Best regards
