Title: SE84UFO and SE84UFO2.1 as mono set up Post by Sxmthuan on 02/21/25 at 17:15:50 Hi all, Wonder sonicwise, both model can be used in pair for mono set up? My based UFO bought new, and I try to increase wpc, just found a used UFO2.1 but not sure if ideally sonic match? Still keep looking either based or 2.1 on used market. Could not wait for 2.5 yrs waiting list. TIA |

You can always send them to Decware to be matched, and if they don't have the anniversary mods I would strongly recommend adding them. |

Meanwhile, will build bridge kits and be ready for audition. 25th anniversary is too much for my wallet. Beside, these are 5th amp set hook up with my KHorn. I swap around 5 set of amp just for fun ;D |
Title: Re: SE84UFO and SE84UFO2.1 as mono set up Post by Kahuna Jack on 02/21/25 at 18:22:53 Try spending a week or 2 of listening closely to each one by themselves first and figure out what you hear. The most experience I have with comparing the basic Zen vs 2.1 , zen(2017) had jupiter beeswax / 2.1 (2021) miflex is that my basic zen had more lively jump to overall sound but 2.1 was new with less than 50 hours or so. Used same tube set in that comparison. When the word "power" is used when talking about running as mono blocks ?? one could be disappointed depending on the speaker used. The benefit is more of a "detail" in sound thing as opposed to more "thump and grunt" . But mono blocks sure do look spiffy : ) |
Title: Re: SE84UFO and SE84UFO2.1 as mono set up Post by Sxmthuan on 02/21/25 at 21:06:50 Great advise, Wpc is just a number. My Alan Eaton 45 monos play twice as loud as Inspire 45 on same preamp volume. Both are like 2wpc. I like monos so it can be sit on top of KHorn (or Scala, I have this pair too) Thanks |

You're not wrong. Quote:
But note there is a difference between gain: how output voltage aka volume responds to changes in the input voltage, and power: the maximum voltage the amp can deliver across a load before clipping. |

Everything turn out good, could not tell the different between left and right channel volume-wise and sonic detail-wise. Very happy with the result. I will keep them this way until I can find another used UFO2.1, love the wooden base and round meters look. Wish waiting list 90days short ;D |
