Title: Rca splitter for zmf decware otl?
Post by ck293 on 08/19/24 at 13:00:46

I'll be receiving a zmf decware otl unit this week. I am very excited and can't wait to try it. I am planning on using it as a preamp as well but noticed it only has one set of pre outs. I'd like to connect my subwoofers too. Would a rca splitter be best way to do that? Will using a splitter on the pre outs affect sound? Is there a better way?

WELCOME!

With my limited experience with subwoofers I would say. . . should be okay.

Others with more experience and specific knowledge will hopefully weigh in.

It will be interesting to hear your impressions of the component!

Something like this seems ideal for this application:

This might be cool, too, and you could use the same type of thing to add more inputs as well.

I recommend using an RCA Splitter which can effectively duplicate the signal from the preamp outputs to both your main amplifier and subwoofers.

I use Schiit Sys as a passive switcher/splitter for a similar setup, which solves the split signal problem and allows for separate volume control for the sub. The ZMF OTL output impedance is quite low so the 2-way split is still stable, but avoid using cheap splitters as they cause noise.

Use an RCA splitter to connect the subwoofers to the pre outs of the ZMF Decware OTL unit. However, using a splitter can degrade the signal and affect the sound quality.

You can also use a subwoofer amplifier with RCA inputs, allowing you to connect directly without losing sound quality. If you can, consider this solution to ensure optimal sound.
