Title: Sophisticated Scammers Post by Donnie on 07/13/22 at 23:18:13 I've noticed a trend here in the last few weeks with scammers showing up and putting 4 posts in quickly to gain access to try to scam people. My thought is that maybe after 4 posts you can access who members are or get access to IM's? Maybe is is some sort of hacker game The real weird thing is they they have put in some very savvy questions lately. They used to just copy and paste things or say "I agree" or such to get their 4 posts. Again, I'm not sure what their end game is here. But if you message someone and they reply with some sort of fishy looking link, please message me so I can have a look and hopefully ban their ass. |

Title: Re: Sophisticated Scammers Post by Donnie on 07/16/22 at 13:35:02 Well they also keep coming at us the normal way! I was alerted by a very savvy member just this morning about another shady scammer that had been in our forum just last night. Typical methods this time, a few replies asking if something was available or agreeing with a post, then sending a member a message with some sort of hinky link or attachment. If this happens to you, please don't hit the link! Just send me a message and I will look into it and hopefully hit them with the mighty ban hammer! |
Title: Re: Sophisticated Scammers Post by Davis Mark on 10/11/24 at 05:23:42 Good catch! It's definitely suspicious how these scammers are getting more sophisticated. Staying vigilant and reporting any shady links is key. Thanks for looking out for the community! |

Title: Re: Sophisticated Scammers Post by CAJames on 10/11/24 at 16:12:31 A ballsy move, even by bot standards. |
Title: Re: Sophisticated Scammers Post by JBzen on 10/11/24 at 16:23:14 Back in a day we use to call those Flimflam men. After all, it don't seem this one is in for some easy cash. |

Title: Re: Sophisticated Scammers Post by Donnie on 01/02/25 at 16:34:56 Has anyone noticed that all of the scammers are out again in force? I noticed at least 2 this morning. The weird thing is that they now join and play along with us for quite a while before exposing themselves. |

Yes, ChatGPT etc. have made the bots seem a lot more human than a few years ago. But they still sound suspicious to my carefully trained ear ![]() |
