Just beautiful....can't wait for my Torii  MK IV to get here.  I am trying to figure out what I will require for a rack.  How many inches is it between your shelves?  It looks like a good height. Do you know what the minimum clearance above the tallest tube should be?  Seems I read it some where and can't find it now.  The shelves I was just looking at were only ten inches between shelves....not enough I'm sure.  Mark.

Wow.....just beautiful!!  That night glow is the icing on the cake.  I am waiting for my Torii MK IV to be built as well.

Thanks! I know, waiting is hard ;) But you have time to prepare everything before new "baby" comes home (change cables, get NOS tubes, change shelve...)

There is good place with good variety of shelves:

Good luck with waiting!

with those shelves you can adjust height how you like...

I love that listening room...has a great vibe to it.

The photos are excellent as well...you captured the tube glow very well! A master of the tripod for sure.  :)

A very steamy looking room!

I gotta ask,  what kind of tubes are those 4 that are in the  EL34 positions.  Also how do they sound.  And while i'm at it,, which VR's are those. If it all sounds as great as it looks, I wanna play too..!  ;D

Pretty sure he's running psvane 6ca7-t in the el34 position.  I'm running them as well and they are by far my fav power tubes...although pricey at 3 bills for a quad set through grant fidelity.

Yeah, 3 bills is high,  guess I'd rather spend that on upgrading my MkIII to IV once people here start reporting on the benefits of it.  Oh well,  they look damn fine EdGuy, I bet you enjoy them.

Wow, I watched this twice just to try and take in all the cool gear you have.  Great room and your music choice was awesome as well as I'm a big fan of The Man in Black!

I'm interested in what tube dampers you have in the pictures? Why the different positioning on the EL34's?

Those look like the Halo III from Herbie's Audio Lab. Not cheap! That is about where I would put them on those tubes.

You wouldn't want the damper in the middle of the glass as you'd possibly be splitting one glass vibration into two equal smaller ones. You want it at an odd location like 1/3 or 1/5 from the top.

I find it to be a bit different when you have that narrower top section. And every amp is a bit different as is the isolation due to shelving etc. I suspect Ed did some experimenting and decided on that.

Agreed; ultimately, use your ears! I was just pointing out the theory behind not having it in the middle.

Yeah, I think most of using Halos have found that as a good starting point, but experimentation is best. I have some bottle shaped rectifiers and regulators that sound best with the damper in about the middle. Or maybe. The difference is so subtle it may be just imagining.

One difference that is NOT subtle is the positioning of Iso-Cups under the Torii amps. Wow. An inch one way or another really makes an impact, at least in my system (and others on the forum have reported similar results). I didn't really want to believe it at first, but I can't ignore it.

So you're using the Iso-Cups and one of the many balls rather than Tender Feet? Steve Recommended Tender Feet to me rather than the cups, but didn't say why.

I've been using the isocups under my zen on top of a coreaudio amp stand and they are the best isolation device I've ever used (not that I have tons of experience). Currently have two halfway between my rectifiers and the individual OC2 tubes and two under the transformers about 1.5 inches from the back and 2 inches in from the side forming a trapezoid. I also have 4 holding a 3 inch maple stand which my rega p6 sits on.  If I ever have a tube humming or buzzing (rare but does occur) maneuvering the isocup under or around said tube always fixes the problem.

LR, Tenderfeet are great, and not as expensive, but the Iso-Cups outperform them in my opinion, under most components, and they simply SLAY under the Torii.

I was leaning towards the Iso-Cups under the Mystery amp when it shows up. Tenderfeet under my Oppo Universal.
