KT77s
11/01/22 at 03:20:59

Recently I took an interest in the Genalex Gold Lion KT77 power tubes.   Doing a few of my usual searches, I found price quotes ranged between $75 to $85 per tube "new" not used. Then I checked the Decware website and found the price doubled to $150 per tube. eBay quoted KT77s as high as $300 per tube and $300 for a matched quad. So I wonder what accounts for the variances in the price, assuming they are unused?

Are there different grades of Genalex Gold Lion KT77 tubes? I don't think the difference is attributed to NOS vs. current tubes. Decware does not label their KT77s with that terminology.

Does anyone have an understanding as to why the price of these tubes varies so much?

Since they put sanctions on Russia, tubes from Russia have been wonky. Some were asking $500+ a quad of KT77s not too long ago.

My guess why DECWARE sells at $150 a tube is because it's not the business they want to be in. It's time consuming to match tubes and energy put into shipping amps is where the focus is wanted. It could also be that when it was updated the cost of a GL KT77 was a lot more.

NOS Genalex KT77s, if you can find a quad will be very expensive.

I've had really good experiences with VivaTubes.com. They are my favorite new production tube seller. The way the website is laid out turned me off of them at first. The tightness of matching is really good. I've verified the measurements and they are spot on. No funny business like I ran into with some Ebay sellers. I just purchased a matched quad last week for $300.

Sign of the times for tubes. Prices have been crazy for Russian tubes. Nice to see VivaTubes drop the price to $299. Ordered some last week. Always been happy ordering Matched Quads from VivaTubes. Really enjoyed their prices 18 months ago.

Tony,

As Groovy pointed out….I would highly recommend Viva tubes.  I purchased a matched quad of the GL KT77 earlier this year from them for like $400.  I got a 10% coupon for my next order, so that was a nice bonus.

It’s nice to see  that the prices have dropped from when I bought them…..then again I bought them right around the time that there was talk about the price hike.

Hi Dominick,

Based on your and GS's positive feedback on Viva tubes, I ordered the GL KT77s that are currently discounted.  I have to add that CAJames' link brought both a smile and an eye roll Smiley

I will follow up with a review once I have had time to get to know these tubes.

Thanks, Tony
