The 1625 has a 12 volt heater and a 7 pin base so it certainly is not a plug in replacement.

Thank you!  Do you a solid reference guide of equivalents you can point me to by chance?

Equivalents (or better, compatibles) are hard, because whether tube XYZ will work instead of tube ABC really depends on the circuit. Best way to get started is to hang out on message boards (like this) and see what other people are using. The Valve Museum tends to list "sensibly equivalent" tubes, although many are obscure.

http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa0540.htm

Incompatible is much easier. You can google "XYZ tube data" and look at the datasheet and compare e.g. pinout and heater current and voltage to "ABC tube data."

The RCA Tube Manual is a great reference if you are interested in tubes. But even it is a little confusing because there are different editions that focus on the current "tubes of the day." In other words the 1970s edition is going to be different than the 1940s. But it has a ton of good information even beyond specs for individual tubes.

If you are looking for vacuum tube equivalents of various types, I recommend the book, Tube Substitution Handbook, by William Smith & Barry Buchanan. I have found the above book to be helpful.

6BG6 is equivalent but you will need a different adapter.

Lots of octal equivalents or approximates.  7581A, 7027A, 6L6, 6LG GC with big bottle.  KT66.  an oft-unmentioned gem that everyone should try because they are inexpensive the 6P3S NOS.

These all work in my ZMA.  I think that Rachel has a wider bias band than the ZMA as I could use the KT88 in Rachel when I owned it but it won't bias down in the ZMA.

Rereading my post I see I omitted the 5933.  It is an 807 equivalent that uses the same adapter.  I just tried a set.  pretty good.  I'm still listening to the russian 6P3S.

Well I would describe them as very clear and accurate.  Vocals stand out.  Not harsh.  Highs are there and lows are better than any other tube I've tried.  Jerry

Thx Jerry!

Has anyone used the 6P3S in Rachael?  Would appreciate any feedback.

Hello Chris,

Seems no one has replied in over a year. No experience with that 6p3s used in Rachel?

I'm curious what 807 type tubes or equivalents might work well in Rachel.

Thanks,
geo
