Who are DECWARE customers?

The wonderful thing about this community is that it extends beyond boarders, race and politics.  It's just people who love seeing how good they can get music to sound.

Here is a screen shot of the past 30 days of activity on the new part of the website. The new site has it's own tracking built-in.

So now that you all know where each other lives, let's have a party!

FWIW every web site you visit "tracks" you whether or not there is a cool geolocated dash board. For security if no other reason. If you seriously don't want to be tracked don't open a browser.

Very interesting to me that South Korea appears to take more interest in Decware than does Japan.

What do the circles represent?

I'd expect nothing less from Big Brother's head of the Ministry of Truth but now he seems to be publicizing it.  And what happens when he's hacked?

Maybe you all are fine with this erosion of your "civil liberties" but I'm not.

I think we all need clarity on what the blank is going on here.  Full disclosure so we can make decisions on whether to stay under these surveillance conditions.

Anyone with a website can log the IP addresses of visitors. All businesses do it to analyze site traffic. I’m sure Steve isn’t using it for a nefarious world  domination plot. I think he’s simply enjoying discovering that his small, family business is becoming a global audio phenomenon and thought that we would be happy to see some interesting data.
I get that you’re unhappy about the state of our “surveillance state.”
It happened in 2001 when they pushed the Patriot Act on us.

Question is how many are bots and scammeres?  See the dot in kenya?  Three weeks ago I traced a scammer to a Facebook account in Kenya.  She was trying to sell an SE34 amp from a photo she found on reddit.

So that explains that dot.

Archie, perhaps you should take it down about 3000 notches. Each post literally says "IP LOGGED" at the bottom of it. Learning that a webmaster has the ability to track a user's IP address is hardly revelatory. It appears that Steve's mapped most of the Western World. It's hardly like he's publishing photos of you listening to Herb Alpert in your living room.

Heavens, a guy tries to post something fun and lighthearted--like a map of his freaking fanbase--and folks start clutching their pearls and loading their diapers. Archie, how can anyone take your proclamation for privacy seriously if you're surfing the net in the 21st Century without a freaking VPN?

Full disclosure on what's going on? You're frighteningly naďve and out of touch with the basic workings of technology. Surveillance conditions? I bet Steve got a chuckle out of that one.

TRIGGERED!!!!

SAD!

Archie, FULL DISCLOSURE ON WHAT'S GOING ON: I found your private expletive-laced diatribe rather amusing. and here's my prescription for you: kick back with some more Herb Alpert and remain calm whilst Steve frantically tracks your every move. If you still feel ill-at-ease, simply clutch your pearls even harder and retreat to a safe space.

IDK Blue but "blank off" doesn't seem to qualify as an "expletive-laced diatribe" but you are the judge on how you view things.  And don't drag Herb Alpert into this.

Big brothers, ministry of truth, demanding full disclosures, multiple uses of the word blank...yeah...you've definitively exhibited an expletive-laced diatribe. You seem rather unhinged. I take comfort in knowing that certain people have logged your IP address.

I'm with you on the sentiment.

I'm sure its not Steve's intent at all, but its still troubling that just another set of eyes so to speak in whatever form is added on top of the huge heap.

And you're right, in general terms too many are all too ready to trade safety for security, and worse yet, convenience. They are ignorant and have no idea what's coming., and they're happy to be that way.

Your ISP (internet service provider) tracks every keystroke, every page that pops up on your computer, how long it it took to load, how long you looked at it, anything you clicked on and anything you've typed unless it was encrypted. This is called a server log. It has been done this way since the 1980's when the internet's World Wide Web was formed. This information will be used against you in court by your own government if it serves their interest. For example, if you are accused of a hate crime, and you looked at guns or extreme organizations prior to the crime, they will show the jury the date and time you looked at it, the actual guns, actual clubs, anything you typed or texted, the porn and anything else they can to discredit your character.

This traffic location chart simply tracks an IP address. It doesn't know you name, the color of your house, what kind of underwear you have on... those privileges are reserved for Google and Alexa.

lol, I completely missed that inference.  I thought he was referring to Herb Alpert who's music I happen to have a lot of.  I thought it was some kind of cultural dig.  I guess I'm not surprised that he was referring to doing drugs.

BTW,  I'm not blanking tracking anyone.  The web servers do this, and google analytics do this.  It is already done, and is done on every web site.  You can choose to look at this information or not.  It's not something I created or perpetuated, I just God Forbid tried to share something positive with the Decware family.

Step 1: Join an audiophile community where the master architect / head engineer actually interacts with his customer base.

Step 2: Lambast said engineer with audacious conspiratorial claims that are highly illogical, if not laughable.

Step 3: Head engineer offers logical explanation that's otherwise obvious to 99.9999% of Decware forum users. (Spoiler alert: he can tune an amp, but abolishing your inalienable rights is outside of his wheelhouse).

Step 4: Continue breaking his balls.

Astonishing.

Wow what an exchange!
All I can say is if one lives off grid(in the woods sustained by the woods) one can not be tracked. Go to town and get some supplies and one can be tracked.
Being paranoid is a waste of energy.

Interesting map of Decware interest. Congratulations Decware!

My sentiments exactly, Carlsbad. Crying to Steve about the Orwellian state of our Republic is about like crying to your leftist Congressman about the crap sound coming out of your Chinese Communist Party amplifier.

File your complaints with the entities capable of addressing them.

I'm sorry, but this is just so incredibly disgusting, purely offensive, ghastly, hurtful, un-called for, obnoxious, baiting, repulsive, and abhorrent (I might need a thesaurus soon) that I am just going to have to laugh my blanking ass off!!

It's starting to bind my ribs.

I'm also wondering if Archie is having a laugh at how his comment has escalated.

Agreed!

Not raising a flag here, but I just clapped once due to comedy.

I love the map! Let's just enjoy it.

Well, thanks the comic relief folks, I really needed it.  Sarah’s response was my favorite!

Let’s all calm down and enjoy our respective music. That map is something else.  It opened my eyes to Decware’s reach throughout the world. Thanks for sharing Steve!

I'm not concerned with your record, Jec, so perhaps, you should just about yourself. Heaven forbid that my having an opinion would trigger so many delicate (fragile as a glass bird) sensibilities. I'd be happy to engage indefinitely in this (low energy) discourse, but I'll respect Steve's forum and bow out of this thread.

Have a lovely evening.

Nice to see the near field and the far flung Decware-scenti all in one mapping.

Does this mean that Decware is getting dangerously too big? Their reach too world-enveloping? Are we going to witness Steve becoming like Citizen Kane, where at the end of the movie we hear him mumbling "Rosebud! Rosebud!" and the camera zooms in on a 1928 tabletop radio with Rosebud hand painted on top that he's never told anybody about?

Maybe not. With this mapping, I think the better inspiration would probably be a movie like  Around The World In [SE] 84 [UFO] Days.

Anyway . . . Hallo! to you four fellas in Malaysia awaiting Audio Nirvana, and you in Honiara, Guadalcanal Island, and the three at the top section of Norway relaxing in their outdoor 38°F 'warm tub', and that resourceful person in Iceland who's going to power the new amplifier from a hot spring generator in the backyard.

And - Howdy! to all Decware folks living in States or Provinces having names that start with a capital letter!

TWO YEARS LATER...

Living room of a run-down, California ranch-style home. 2-3 people stand around drinking Ripple. There's a coffin on sawhorses at one end of the room.

Knock on the door. One of the drinkers opens it, unsteadily.

DHL GUY: Got a package here for Burgermeester! Hey, you like Decware huh?

You've only got two years left? I can think of a lot of things other than an amplifier I'd get if I only had that long.

BTW - There are two other threads co-opted for wait time grumping already.

I think it's obvious that a few people here have some serious issues, existing long before Decware or Decware forum members intruded  upon their non-existing happiness.

Can We Please Stay On Topic Of The Original Post?

Thank You!

Edsonic, very clever. I'm talking about the Rosebud and other movie reference.

Thank you. We needed that.

... also for your recognizing those many and few in far away lands.
Only wish we could all share a fire and some music.
There would be nothing to fight about.

I'm not seeing the connection between the book 1984 and the commercial intrusion of privacy in practice today.

In that book, Big Brother referred to a totalitarian government. In today's corporate implementation, behavioral surveillance is literally in your pocket via "smart phone," in your house via "smart" TV, "smart" lights, doorbell, garage door, washing machine, etc, in your computer - if its ever connected to the internet, whole house monitoring and surveillance via Google Home, Alexa, et al.

Dept. of Homeland Security and National Security Agency will share what relatively limited information they have with LE or other relevant agencies.

Google, Facebook, Amazon, Chrome, etc. -each- have 1,000+ times more info on you than the above government agencies combined, and sell that info to thousands of businesses who pay a subscription for it.

JD,

You're welcome, and thank you for your kind response. I just got tired of the nonsense of having an issue that is 100% from the private sector being clumsily dragged into the realm of Big Government, Big Brother, etc. It's worse than disingenuous, it's outright dishonest.

Next:
Quote:
Well, he pushed the "line"

Maybe you consider repeated unprovoked putrid insults to one of the forum's most valued contributors 'pushing the line.' I feel reasonably assured that many here considered it exceedingly vile and mean spirited, not to mention tacky and puerile.

And utterly tiresome.

Ed,

I missed your post above and only just now read it.  I think the mistake you make is that you don't seem to think that the corporation and government surveillance are connected.  They are hand in glove.

And no one denies that this is an audio forum but a lot of the fun is in going off on tangents that may be off topic and non-audio.  I'm worried that while you know who was arguably out of line and perhaps extreme, the slope is well greased and completely subjective.

But Archie, we should watch what we say. Steve has made it clear, by placing a sticky on each forum here, that this is to be a place where politics are not welcome or discussed. Talking about property taxes as a tool of oppression, or government and corporate surveillance, IS talking politics.

We should watch what we speak of, and those are areas we should not be speaking of. I agree it's fun to go off on tangents, but we shouldn't go off on tangents that lead to discussions of politics. And . . . we're living in a political world, politics can be reached by many tangents.

That's clear enough.  There are many ways of touching on politics.  I certainly don't like personal attacks and aren't trying to defend them in any way.  I just see politics as too broad and subject to too much interpretation to ban as a topic.

Honestly, I'm getting bored with the fragility of so many.  While not exactly shadow-banning, what's happening here seems to me as bad.  When it becomes necessary to watch closely everything you say so as not to offend, because so many are so easily offended, then maybe it's time to find other pastures.

I am just a guest here and maybe I've overstayed my welcome.  This Forum used to seem like a place to relax but for me anyway, that time feels like it's passed.

Oh well, given the two to three year wait, it's not like I'll be buying more Decware anyway.

Well Archie it's Steve's house and its HIS rule. As I said you can go off on a tangent that will be political or will become political and there's a mindfulness requisite to stay within the rules.

I wasn't even aware of the rule til last year and when I did become aware I strove to toe the line. It hasn't been as much fun here, in my opinion not because of the rule but because of the flaunting of it.

Not my rules, but the host's. I fully expect to honor the rules of a host or not visit or expect a dressing down. . . .

We don't want you to go anywhere, it seems really pretty easy to steer clear of topics that are political or lead to politics.

It doesn’t. When people are active in forums and spend a lot of time discussing things and becoming friendly with them, content expands. I see it in the watch forum I’m active in and certainly the Harley forum I used to visit. People are people. It seems inevitable. But, rules are rules. It’s a shame to see anyone who is quite active go.

Personal attacks on other members is what truly pushed things over the edge.

Discussion can and will move "Off Topic" and yes I understand that there are many different opinions here, and that will be respected. But please don't attack each other.

Rules are rules, rules have consequences when not followed...I'm looking forward to being able to feed my curiosities here peacefully without getting "triggered".

My view on websites tracking is this: when used nefariously I hate it. However, the sheer amount of tracking info out there just may lessen the value of that info?

I maintain that it can be easy with some thought before posting. I am a daily poster on two music forums where political discussion is forbidden. With a bit of practice and forethought very varied and spirited conversations can be had that do not have to involve political themes. Of course for some in this time politics is a part of all their thoughts and activities. Those persons who cannot post without moving into political postings arguably aren't a good fit here.

And of course bullying and insulting should not be tolerated, that's not a part of civil discussion and information sharing.

I'm only a few spots behind Brad.

I have a full set of Cryotone tubes, 0A3-WC, 12AU7-WCL, ECC88-WC, 5U4GB-WC, KT77-WC and 0C2-WC however the 0C2 isn't applicable to the MK5. My MK5 broke the 200 spot in the list so I'll have some feedback for you once it arrives.

I also have a bunch of other tubes to try. Sophia Electric EL34, GL KT66, Tungsol 7027a, Shuguang 6CA7, JJ 6CA7, and others.

I'll run it with the stock tubes first. After that I'm most likely going to run EML 5u4g, GL KT77, EH Gold Pin 6922, Westinghouse 0A3 (Or Cryotone 0A3)

I don't have a CSP3 or CSP25TH. I did have a CSP3-25th once upon a time.

Where are you in the queue?

Looks like a solid system to me. What's the plans with the MK5?

Yes. I emailed and asked. They sent me an invoice. If I recall correctly they are the same price as the 0A3. Took 10 days to get them as they needed to process them.

Steve starts a thread which immediately heads in a direction that invites political/philosophical discourse. One member sends a vile PM to another, then more discourse, Steve gets his tender feelings hurt and swears at the room, others contribute, a member notes ignorance of another member and then gets kicked out.

Tell me more about the justness of this final action. Please, help me understand how saying someone is ignorant violates good taste beyond that of the company owner being foul in a forum entry or a member privately telling another member a vile comment? Maybe he should have followed the lead of the company owner and used an f-bomb. Much classier.

Rules! What rules? Were the room attendants feeling unsafe?

Maybe it's time for a new product, the "Zen Tissue".

All I'll say is that I believe there was more than this thread taken into account when this decision was made.

GroovySauce,

Guess I'm looking to build a more resolving system. Have lots of plans and a budget. Going to mock up some Lii silver 10's next. At the point where getting the amp would help out since it's a unknown for now. Don't want to derail this thread with all my audio plans. Thanks for the help, expect some question down the road.

Hey, JEC,

I am curious about your Klipsch RP-600M, experience. How long have you
had them? Do you have the newer model with the "II" ?

I bought a pair when I still worked at a big box store a few years ago, but after three days I boxed them back up, due to "shouting" at me.
I bought them because I liked the sound in the showroom when compared to Martin Logans, B&W, Definitive, few others which mostly sounded like they all had colds to me.
Those on display had been broken in for months, though.

Mine are basically brand new, but shelved in my attic for now. I keep thinking I should pull them out and just burn them in for a few weeks in the garage, but I have so much to work through. Still waiting for a chance for a second try with those.

What kind of music do you enjoy?
I play mostly jazz from the '50s, '60s and '70s with rock from the '60s,'70's,'80s era. Occasionally some classical.
I am used to an open back sound for about twenty years now.

I also have a pair of La Scalas, too, but I don't like those much either. They haven't made it to the attic yet. Too heavy.

Hi Same Old DD,

Had them 14 months the original model. They were bright at first but they broke in nice after a month. If I tow them in pointed at my listening position they can be "Shouting". Just have a slight toe in and that works well. Like them a lot, but most of my listening is done on F15 baffles. They have that V-curve going on so they are weak in the mid-range. They are fun with all genres of music. Got a good deal on them. Few people offered to buy them if I ever wanted to sell them.

Going to give them a rip on my new Torri this week.

'grats on the Tori!!

Maybe that's what was fighting me. I'm kind of used to near field monitors that work well pointed directly to the listening area. I moved them around a lot, but I was still pretty close to direct.

Thanks.
Probably should get them back down and break them in a bit more.

Same Old DD,

In my room I found it's better to be at least 8 feet away. Didn't care for them in the near-field.

My room is small, too 12x14, so I am going to be close, as well.
But, HEY!  I have a dedicated room now.

I just saw for the first time, that GR Research guy upgrading those same speakers, from a posting here with links to some vids. Very detailed vids. I mean he actually demonstrates how to twist wire, FFS.

I don't remember who to thank, but you know who you are and Thanks!
It kind of explains why I could not give them a fair shake down at the time I bought them. Smiley
But honestly, in a super dead display room with close to 100 dead speakers in there making everything even more dead, the liveliness of those speakers stood out and I grabbed some.

Enjoy your Tori!!
Can't wait to hear more.

I haven't been to the forum in a while.

I was wondering to myself the other day...given the greater popularity of Decware, will the Decware forum devolve into a place I no longer visit?

So today I visited.  Hmmm.

Please keep this forum a place where open minded, and dare I say it, Zen music lovers can share ideas and discuss new stuff.

Cool map Steve.  And I really wish you could visit the Chicagoland dot and listen to my system/room.

The addition of the cryo input tube has been the icing on the cake.  I really have it dialed in now.  One of the few products I have ever bought that still amazes me each time I use it.

Palomina,

Glad you did stop by today. You views are always something I take notice of. Thanks for your help. Read a response you wrote to a fellow member about F15's. You description was a 10 out of 10. Especially the comparisons between C10 and the F15. Big fan of the crown -W15 setup.

Thanks

I'd stop by more but I am just in such a good place right now with my system I don't have any big yearnings.

I will probably start looking for a new streaming platform or software.  Audirvana left a bad taste in my mouth when they didn't address (or even respond to emails) about the Tidal skipping issue.

The C10/AELO15s continue to be my go to speakers.

Glad to be a dot on the map.

Palomino,

Good luck with you streaming platform. Please post your findings. I'm a computer-crossover audiophile. I'm green to this tube world ( other than my families system from the 60's & 70's) Had many dacs and computer/streamers in a desktop setting. Nothing on the level some members have on the forum.

Will say the last few years have been eye opening.  Digital has sure improved. I'm using a simple setup. Raspberry Pi 4 into a Bifrost2 Dac.
Running Volumio OS on the Pi4 and using it as an endpoint with Tidal connect. Think the price went up for using  Volumio. I'm paying $40 a year. They keep it up to date. It has been bulletproof for the last 6 months.

Found this usb cable on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/115306099934?var=415332437973

Biggest usb cable I ever seen. It's Hot, but in the best way.

I was searching the forum for USB cable thoughts and opinions and came across this. Not sure how to "read into" this comment. Do you own that cable? Poking fun at it? Honestly, just looking for clarification.

I recently got a Bifrost on loan, it's now mine. I was then loaned a Blue Heaven USB for a week or two. Sounds great, but I'm not able to justify the spendy price for a USB cable. Perhaps in due time, but just not in the cards for now. So, I real curious if anyone has one of the above cables.

Thanks!

Hi Sean,

I own this cable. Compared to AudioQuest Forest it has more energy, not as flat. Just seems to put more life into the sound. Running it from the Pi4 into a Bifrost 2. Made a huge difference with my RP600Ms. It will do for now, until I upgrade my Dac. Still using it daily. Price was right, big stiff cable something to compare with others.
