Mullard GZ34 / 5AR4

Can anyone comment on using a Mullard GZ34 / 5AR4 rectifier in a CSP3. The manual says something about making sure they are compatible with 47uf 500v capicators….Even after reading the data sheet I was unable to tell if they agree with this parameter, I’m a bean counter, not a electrical engineer..,,.,Even after doing a search in the forums I did not find enough conclusive evidence to convince me to go ahead and use one. Any input would be appreciated.

I have used one in a CSP3 with the Anniversary mods with ZERO issues. A nice sounding rectifier that is perfectly safe in this component.

I've also used a Mullard 5AR4 in a CSP3 and it worked fine. It was my favorite rectifier in my Modwright LS-100, but in the CSP3 I preferred the Valve Art 274B over the Mullard and all 5U4 family contenders.

The dataheet for an Amperex 5AR4 lists a max first cap value in a cap input filter of 60uf, so it should be safe to use.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Installed the Mullard 5AR4 along with new JJ E88CC’s in the CSP3……It’s been on and playing pretty much all day with no problems. The CSP is feeding a new Crimson 275 and a pair of CWiii’s. Cornwalls have never sounded so good.

Gain on the CSP is at 3 clicks. Cornwalls are dead quiet, not a drop of noise….

I have the output of my CSP3 at 3 clicks as well--that's the best dynamic and frequency balance compromise position for my system. Glad yours is doing so well!
