6N23P vs. 6N23P-EV
08/03/21 at 03:09:44

Excerpted from a thread on Audiogon:

"Many years ago, I asked a service technician about the 6N23P for my 6922 preamp. Here’s his response:

-I’m glad you asked me because the 6N23P-EV (in our alphabet) is not the one to get. The 6922 drop-in replacement is the straight-up 6N23P. The EV versions have too-low cathode resistance that will draw too much current in a 6922 circuit and lead to a lack of headroom that compromises dynamics.

The regular version is dead-on. Many people get it wrong and think the EV is better, which is true in the case of 6P14P (EL84 power pentode), but is not for the 6922 replacement."

Any thoughts?

I'm wondering about something somewhat similar.  My CSP3 shipped with 6N1P-EB tubes.  I'm guessing they're Russian NOS, but the markings give nothing away.

The CSP3 manual says the 6N1P-EB is the correct input tube (along with 6922 and 6DJ8).

In the tube replacement section of the Decware website, they have a 6N1P-EV tube (Russian NOS).

I'm wondering if A) the 6N1P-EV will work properly on the CSP3's input and B) how the EV part differs from the EB part?  I love the sound of my 6N1P-EB but am not sure if the 6N1P-EV will sound the same.

Short answer is yes and none. Longer answer is Cyrillic B translates to English V so you will see EV and EB used interchangeably.

Thank you CAJames!

Now I've learned a new word, "Cyrillic"....
