Looking for any knowledge/feedback anyone may have about this TT. Considering an upgrade from my P1 to pair with my Torii V.

I can only state that this would be a company that I would completely trust. The quality and reputation has to stand in order to equal the other analog products that they offer.

That was is my initial impression. That, and that within the $2,500 range that table with the MasterTracker cart is a pretty good value.

I'd get the Technics 1200GR and the Concord MM cart from KAB.  You'd save money and I'm certain you'd have a vastly superior TT.

Archie,

As I’m relatively new to the hobby I’m curious about the cartridge recommendation, clearly the 1200 is legendary and needs no explanation, but is that cart intended for home listening? It seems to be frequently associated with DJ applications.

Thanks for your advice!

Agree with Archie. I have the Concorde style cart with the Sty 40, and it is really nice. Great sound, and simple to set up. Just plug it in and your practically ready.

The great thing about Technics tables is that, unlike many others, you can adjust the Arm height. With the Concorde cart, all you need to do after it is plugged in is to start with the arm level, and fine tune up or down by ear.

The Concord is the OM Super Series cart but packaged in a "DJ" style HS.  I've heard people say it's as good as the 2M Black.  Kevin at KAB may have told me that.  While writing this I was looking at the Ortofon site and these carts seem to be only in their "Historical" menu.  They don't seem to make them anymore.  Perhaps the 2M line has completely superseded them?  KAB lists some though.  If you get interested, give Kevin a call.  He'll fill you in.  https://kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/

Keep in mind that Technics, while keeping the 1200 styling, redesigned their TT from the ground up.  I have the 1200G and am very happy with it.  I put my fully KAB modified 1200MK2 in storage but that was a fantastic table too.  I think the 1200GR is closer to that table.

I'd likely go the route of the 1200gr as 4k for the G is a bit out of my budget.

I also have read positive feedback from 1200 owners who have installed a "Zu modified" DL-103.

There are so many great carts.  I think the 1200 tables play well with a vast number.  I like the Ortofon line and I'm currently sticking with their discontinued Jubilee MC that I get through the Treasure Trove program.

I appreciate the sharing of knowledge/opinions.

The 1200grs are currently back-ordered and may be for a while, which isn't really a problem as I want to have had my Torii V for a few months before I make the switch, and I am still way down the wait list for that.......hahaha!

When I bought my G several years ago I contacted just about every seller on the US list.  I found a couple in stock and even wrangled a 10% cash discount!   Smiley

I bought from these guys.  They were great.

Have you guys kept the stock tone arm? I have heard excellent things about the improvement from trading out to an aftermarket arm...in this case Jelco 850.

The 1200G arm is better than the other arms but I did add a latex tube over it to eliminate a resonance at ~300Hz.  That was the only spike that showed up in testing so I'm confident that I'm doing about as good as possible with a 9" arm.  If you replace the arm then you lose to adjustable height feature.

If the arm is rewired then KAB sells a tube to go on the inside that deadens any resonance.  KAB describes how tubes "ring" when dropped until they add a rubber tube.  Then the thing just hits with a "thunk."  The other must do addition is the viscous arm damping they make for 1200 arms.

The notion of replacing the tone arm does seem pretty intimidating given that I've never done a single modification to my P1, and the dealer attached my cartridge.  Sticking with stock may be the best idea.

People used to bash the 1200 out of prejudice since DJs adopted the TT as their favorite.  Technics originally designed it for hi-end vinyl playback, not the DJ market.  That prejudice included the arm.  In actual fact, the arms are quite good, especially when some of it's "shortcomings" are addressed.

That makes total sense. I am also trying to avoid becoming too obsessive with the gear I buy.  I am a music first kinda guy.  I love the equipment, and trying to get better sound, but at the EOD, I just want to relax and listen to some good tunes.

I agree with you about the obsessing stuff. I tend to do it too, and then for some reason there are those times that I have had great luck with the synergy of a system and not necessarily the cost. Lately, I have found that there are great cartridges for what seems to be too low of a cost. I forget who is selling some of these products, but I did buy a replacement stylus for an old AKG cartridge. That along with a cheaper phono preamp, the sound is better than it should be. Having said all of this, I did not skimp on the TT. You can replace a lot of other components in the system for less than yet another TT would cost.
I look forward to seeing what you may come up with in the end. With vinyl, ALL is important as a group.
