Volume settings on se84c

First of all, Hi to you all! This is my first post, english is not my first language, so sorry in advance if what i'm about to write is not clear Cheesy

I’m been using, off and on, two SE84C as monoblocks since 2006. I recently hooked  them up for the first time into a preamp for easier switching between my different sources.
The problem, I think, is the volume settings on the SE84C, when the volume knob is all the way on I can hear lots of unwanted noise coming out of the speakers even if the volume on the preamp is turned off. For example when I press play on the  cd player I hear the ‘’digital’’ sound at the beginning (I guess it's the laser moving to place itself and quickly reading the info on the cd) and when the cd is on pause it makes a clicking noise. I hear those sounds in the speaker no matter which input I have selected on the preamp and with its volume off.
When I listen tru my headphone amp hooked up to the same preamp its crystal clear, no unwanted noise.
My conclusion is that i'm not supposed to have the volume all the way up on the Zen amp.
What would be the better way to set the volume?
Or is it something else?
Merci!

You can adjust it to where it works/sounds best to you.

It sounds like you might want to turn down the volume on your preamp.

Is something "microphonic" going on with a tube(s) or cable(s)?  Are you saying that you get mechanical sounds from your CD player amplified through your speakers?

@CAJames It sounds like you might want to turn down the volume on your preamp.

It's doing that with the the volume on the preamp is all the way down, no matter which input is selected on the preamp.

@Archie: Are you saying that you get mechanical sounds from your CD player amplified through your speakers?

Here's a link to a sound clip I took with my phone close to the tweeter, bit's loud enough that I can here it well anywhere in my room:

I've never heard anything like that before.  I can hear a hum under the "mechanical" sounds which is typical for my set up.  Do you have a different source you could try so you can see if it's just that CD player?

On the link you gave, the recording looks to be 11 seconds long.  When I play it, music starts playing after the 11 seconds.  Is this part of the recording you made?  I don't hear anything bad in the music part but I'm thinking it's not part of what you posted.
