Changing the input tube in my 25th Anniversary Amp
01/02/21 at 13:40:56

Hi folks,
On my Anniversary Amp I’m thinking about replace the input tubes with rsd ecc83 tubes. Might anyone know if this would be ok? I don’t want to use a tube that could blow up in the amp.

Thanks folks.

I don't think you would harm anything, but this is the same as a 12AX7 and I don't believe it will give you much in the way of volume or linear sound. I wouldn't recommend using it.

Using a 12 volt tube in amplifiers designed for 6 volt tubes will result in the heater of only one of the two triodes being energized. This will make the other triode weak in output since it's own heater is not lit.

Stick with 6922's, 6DJ8's, 7DJ8's, 6N1P's, 6N5P's.  The first three have many NOS manufactures to explore.  Make sure you get yourself a socket saver before you start rolling.

What about 6N23P and 6N23P-EV? Thanks!

The 6N23P and 6N23P-EV are Russian substitutes for 6DJ8 and 6922 vacuum tubes. They will work fine as input tubes in SE84UFO amplifiers.
