Focals with SE84UFO

Anybody tried the SE84UFO with Focal speakers? How would they perform? Focals are usually considered as a match made in heaven with tube amps.

Do you have a specific model in mind? I'm guessing most are around 90db/1w If you have a near field setup should sound great! If you are looking to fill a large room you most likely will be lacking volume.

Chorus 807W. They are 92db. This is just about a general gift idea. Smiley

Hi Emre,

I tried a SE84UFO with a pair of Focal Chorus 716V and it was not a good match, even somewhat nearfield. The 716's were too inefficient, they are however a great match with an 18 watt push-pull EL84 based amp.

Regards,
Mario

Fair point. I will look for options for that bundle. Thanks.

Emre,

I am using my SE84UFO25 with B&W DM630s at 91dB and it is quite fine.  I have also tried it with my ProAC's at 88.5dB and even though it is not an earth-shattering volume, it is quite satisfactory.

I am not familiar with the Focal's so I cannot comment on the synergy between them, yet from an efficiency perspective they should be fine.  With these amps, you hear so much detail that you do not have to crank the volume up.

By the way, my previous Zen amp was the SE84UFO and same comments apply to that as well.

Let me know if you would like to talk directly over the phone if you are based in Turkey.

Best,

Alper

Well I live in NYC, but in about two years I will be getting back.

Have a pair of Focals in Ankara, and been thinking about employing them to upgrade my sister’s system. Currently I am very happy with Caintuck speakers myself.

Perhaps I could use your recordings with Bodek Janke to settle this when I am back in Ankara? Smiley

Of course, but check the one with Ercument Orkut and Volkan Oktem as well, "Different City, Different Mood."  :)

Cheers,

A.
