Subwoofer crossover points with betsy driver
11/07/20 at 00:44:20
Hi Randy and all,
Wondering what crossover point you suggest for subs with your planar betsys.
Attached is picture of the pair i built with your kind guidance Randy, and the four subs i am running them with.
I use a crown amp to power the subs
Thanks John

124.648 Hz.
I may have made that number up.
It would be really cool if that worked though.

Hi John,
Thanks for sharing .....
The Betsy drivers roll off pretty quickly below 80 HZ or so in the barrel shaped baffles.
Depending on the room, I set the subwoofer crossover point between 80 and 120 HZ and dial in the volume setting from there.
Of course, every room is different and experimentation is the key.
Best wishes,
Randy

I have only worked with sub cross over points that are 1st order.
My rough rule of thumb is 70% of where the frequency starts to role off.
So if the response is flat down to 200hz naturally, I would start at 140hz, 1st order.
Steeper slopes will bring the points closer, but I am ok with my brain filling in the gap.

Thanks everyone (even donnie
)
I tend to overdo the bass, and need to show self control!
I am currently at 83 hz
Thanks again, John
