Internal fuse locations
05/22/20 at 20:31:56

Hey all!

I'll be getting my Jr. here soon from Tommy once my upgrades are done at Decware, and I've seen mention of internal fuses. I'm afraid to crack the thing open to find them, as I read about all the voltage being held by the capacitors. Does anybody have a picture of the internals of the Jr showing where the fuses are? Maybe I'm making a bigger deal of this then it is?

Thanks!
- Brandon

Sure thing!

Look in the lower left quadrant, just past the 3rd blue wire, you see the grey wire that runs north. Follow it up to the upper right hand corner. It T's into a kind of purple looking wire. If you get there you are in the wrong part of the amp and need to start over.

Sorry, I'm just a goofball messing with you.

In real life you just unscrew the top and flip it over, no big deal.

Haha Donnie, well played!

Hells, try this link to the photos section of the forum.
Interior photo of the Torii Jr.
in the middle, toward the top - you'll see a green square.
There are 3 fuses.
A single. And then a pair.
That's them.

Thanks Tommy! So the spots my hands should avoid touching, are those the silver caps below that? Or the white one near the bottom?

The caps should discharge after a few minutes. Just wait a while, then a little longer to be safe.

You will be fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the caps will discharge if the amp is turned off while the source is still playing.  I do this with my ZMA, which has those two huge caps, before I do anything with the OA3s and I've never had the terrible arcing that can happen if the caps aren't discharged.

The way to discharge the caps in a tube amplifier is to first make sure the amp is on and somewhat warmed up.   At least run it for several minutes, and then turn it off.  It won't mater if a source is connected and playing or not, except that with a source you can hear the fade as all the high voltage leaves the amp.

The way NOT to discharge the caps in a tube amplifier is to take a cold amplifier, turn it on and then right back off.  Doing so will fully charge the caps instantly and they will stay that way for a period of time.
