807's for Rachel

I have purchased quite a few pairs of NOS 807's from different vendors and am usually satisfied. That being said, I have purchased a few pair of 807's from Roger at RAM Music labs and have bought tubes from him since the late 80's. New tubes but good testing and sorting. Roger has passed on now and I wonder if Steve / Decware would consider offering 807's. About every year or so I get stock Decware replacement tubes for our gear as a base line for tube rolling. I know Decware has a lot on their plate with just normal production but....sure would be cool to get 807's from someone who you trust completely. Happy listening, Chris.

Any particular 807s you really like?

I found some British military ones that really look Russian that I just fell in love with. Big and tight bass, and very "musical". I bought several sets planning on keeping one and selling the rest...but I just can't do it!

I'd love to find some others that sound this good in my Mystery Amp that don't break the bank.

Raven - I have purchased some RCA's back in 2017 (I don't remember from who) that ended up having some hiss after a few months. I then bought some labeled CV124 (British me thinks) from Viva tubes that were/are pretty good and also three pair of 807's from Roger at RAM Labs. These were Chinese tube that he matches and actually have been the quietest so far. The Brit tubes may have sounded overall best, with some new 5U4's in all the pieces everything is sounding very deep, extended at the top and bottom and more definition in the area of attack and decay. I do think that the SED 5U4-G Black Plate from the tubestore (Jon) have been the best rectifiers I have used so far.I like then better than the GZ32's I got off of Kevin at Upscale (although those are nice nice). For the price of the 807's its a fun excercise without dropping a jillion dollars. Happy Listening, Chris.

1940's Canadian Westinghouse are really good. I used them in my Torii MK IV and they are great. The Soviet 807s are OK, too, but will probably last only a year. I am currently running a pair of 1970's RCAs in my Mini Torii. They work well. I had been using some World War II National Unions that tested out at middling level. The RCAs tested very high.

I happen to have some of those Canadian Westinghouse as well. I think I sold my spare set to Palomino though.

I found out I might be getting furloughed for two months, so I'll be spending a lot of time at home working on the house and listening to music...may be selling some tubes instead of buying some to make ends meet.

Hello Decware owners and fans.Tomorrow, Feb 12 of 2024 will be my 2 year anniversary on the waiting list and yesterday I made it to page 1! I'm #199! While I am patiently yet eagerly waiting for Rachel to come to my house I thought it might be time to investigate those 807 tubes that look so interesting in the pictures but Decware doesn't seem to offer any and I don't see a lot of activity around these mysterious looking tubes in the forums and what I do see here isn't real current. So, is anyone with experience willing to educate me or point me in the right direction, please?
Where do those adapters go? And where do they come from? Is it safe to assume I buy these at the same time and place I buy the tubes?
Seems everyone's experience with these tubes is positive. Is that possible? Please forgive my ignorance and help me overcome my lack of experience.

Thanks,
geo

Welcome to the forum!

I don't use 807 or 6L6 equivalent tubes myself, but I can help you out re: adapters. You put the adapter in the amp, and then the tube goes in the adapter. In fact at top the Rachel/SE34I.6 page you can see 807 tubes with adapters in use, note the white cap on the top of the tube.

As for where to get them, typically NOT from where you get your tubes. You can google e.g. "807 to 6L6 adapter" but most people get them from ebay, aka China, and you can search for them there. However it is currently Chinese New Year and a lot of sellers, including my favorite, xulingmrs, will be away for a couple of weeks.

They're good sounding tubes, but my current mojo and has been for about 5 or so months, are KT88s.  Really like the sound of these tubes on my Rachael.
