Disclaimer… I have no affiliation with the company or the video that is posted herein.

AudioQuest just recently released the Dragonfly Cobalt.    This is an upgrade from their Dragonfly Red.

I purchased the Dragonfly Red a few months ago and mainly use it in my car or outside in the backyard.  For a portable USB DAC… I have to say that the Dragonfly Red is a phenomenal product at its price point.   For those of you who are looking for a mobile solution to your music… I would highly consider the Dragonfly.

While it sounded great out of the box…It took approximately two months of use in my car for the Dragonfly to really open up and sounds phenomenal.

I will probably pick up the Cobalt in the fall to use in my other vehicle and then give a comparison.

Just last night I was streaming Led Zeppelin’s X Led Zepplin Album in High Res on Quoboz through the DragonflyRed, and it was a real treat!

Dom,

I love my Dragonfly Red as well, using it primarily for portable listening with my Google Pixel 3 phone. For anyone streaming music using an Android based phone, I highly recommend purchasing the USB Audio Player PRO app on Google Play Store.

It absolutely transforms the HiRez listening experience with a good pair of IEM's or headphones streaming music on TIDAL or Quobuz. This software also allows a complete unfolding of MQA encoded albums streaming from your phone.

IMHO, well worth the price of admission for $7.99.

Hey Rodger,

I had just contacted Audioquest and the product was only released last week.  As of now Audioquest won’t be shipping anymore products to their dealers until next week.

The Cobalt is priced at $300 bucks.  That’s about $100 bucks more than the Red.   According to the Audio Quest rep, the main difference in the upgrade to the Cobalt is that you will hear a bit more detail and better resolution.

BUT....the big advantage is that the Cobalt has some WiFi filtering embedded in the unit… Sort of like what the Jitterbug will do. Now that feature would be worth the extra cost over the Red IMHO.

And it has one of the latest Sabre DAC chips + it's a bit smaller.😀 Sounds like a winner.
