Mullard EL84 RI

Thinking it might be time to replace the output tubes in my amp I decided to try the Mullard's i have laying around. I purchased these as a replacement for my little APPJ amp, which was a huge upgrade to the stock Chinese tubes. (I used them for about 2 months IIRC.) Much to my surprise these didn't suck in the SE84UFO. At all. They are most certainly different to the 6P15P-EV’s supplied with the amp but the Mullard's sound pretty good. Anyone else have a good experience with any other brands? Curious is all.

I have some very good experience with TAD EL84 STR.  The new Mullard’s somehow have not impressed my much, yet it’s been a while that I tried them...

Thanks for the info @alper. I looked at prices online .. very affordable! I will give them a try come autumn. I'm not too worried about using the Mullard's during the summer months because I'm one of those guys who loves the heat and wants the windows open with fans running. With all the background noise I won't mind the slight loss in fidelity.

This was the first time I've rolled tubes with the amp BTW. I also have a new set of 6P15P-EV’s when I want to go back but I'm beginning to sense why tube-rolling can be addicting.

Those TAD EL84 are very good. I confess though that because of the little boost in fidelity that the Hazen Grid Mod brings I'm back to the tubes Steve sends with the amps. . . . Those are carefully selected and tested and KICK ASS.

By the way, it was you who turned me to the TAD’s Lon!  Thanks for the great advice.

Best,

Alper

You're welcome. My tube-rolling journey has taught me not all new production tubes are bad.
