Has anyone seen this?  I bumped into this while buying socks, of all things, on Amazon.

I've not tried it, but everyone's getting on that bandwagon now that people are starting to believe that bits-is-bits is a fallacy.

IMHO, Optical Digital has too many conversions (from one media to another) and each conversion is jitter prone, and I think the bandwidth on optical SPDIF is only 24/96.

In theory optical would be ideal as it would galvanically isolate equipment, could better transmit the on/off bits than voltage based USB,  and could have crazy bandwidth...but we'd need to drop the current optical standard and start fresh with a new format.

So I think there are better options out there.

Bits is bits, zero is zero, and one is one. If so, why does it all sound so different to me? I must live in the grey zone in a black or white world.

I bought one and the smps that it uses injects a metric fuckload of noise into your power supply, contaminating everything else.

It was so bad I was able to find noise on my SPDIF output alone, with just the smps brick plugged in. I have no idea how this thing can pass FCC regulations, let alone be a "hifi" product.

Imho you're better off getting a DAC with built-in jitter correction. I plan on a Schiit Gungnir Multibit if I ever feel the need to upgrade from my Modi MB. Nothing against Steve's DACs, I just like Multibit DACs conceptually.

They're just hitting the market, just out of beta testing I believe.

Beta testing experience in part is chronicled here:

Indeed. PS Audio and Decware are a great combo in my two systems.

Also an option, that is out and has been working well for a while.

http://www.sonore.us/microRendu.html

It's Roon compatible, and basically allows your playback software to see it as a Network interface, and outputs USB to your DAC.

Almost like a PS Audio Bridge, but handles higher speed DSD, and is $700 vs the cost of the bridge.
