Very nice tube for CSP
12/10/14 at 04:50:48

I have been using a 6N1P triple mica tube in my CSP for quite a while
in the output positions, and recommend it highly.

They don't come up on ebay very often, but I recently picked up a
spare pair from seller py_alexey. They have some up now, so get
a pair while you can.

Cheers funch ! I took a flyer and bought a pair for my CSP2+.
Strange he doesn`t appear on my e-bay search for 6n1p`s but I`ve found that before. He turned up with a google search which has his e-bay page.
Thanks again, Syd.

OK Funch, I looked and I have a double Mica Russian 6n1p in both input and output positions in my CSP3.  I still have the Decware supplied tubes in it.  My question is, how would the sound differ between the tube you recommend and the standard tube Steve supplies? Review info on the internet is lacking.  Mark.

PS...Marky, was the S&H really only 8 bucks?  Once you've had a listen, tell us what you think of them.

PSS...OK, I couldn't wait.  With only one more pair available, I pulled the trigger since the chance might not come up soon.  I've spent a small fortune on tube rolling in the ZP3, Torii, and Zen Signature Mono Blocks...so I guess it's long over due to try something else in the CSP3...actually I have and always came back to the stock tubes in this one.  Besides...it was relatively cheap for these compared to many other tubes I've bought.

Has anyone tried a pair of these choices, in the outputs of a +, or CSP3?

Tungsram 6922 Platinum Grade 2 x 75. = $150
Ediswan CV2492/6922 Platinum Cryo 2 x 108. = $216.
Philips SQE88CC/6922 Platinum Grade 2 x 169. = $338.
Telefunken E88CC/6922 Platinum Grade 2 x 149. = $298.

No Larry I haven't tried any of those particular brand and type in my CSP series preamps. I have tried 6922, 6DJ8, 7DJ8 and the only ones that unseated the 6N1P from all three spots is the 7308 type. The 6922 type just never was satisfying to me. I'd suggest adding a pair or a triplet of 7308 to your list of things to try. Just saying, they were the road to happiness for me in the preamps.

I will look into the 7308 type Lon for my 3.

For now though, I'm enjoying the A12 an B12 change in my ZMA. I am getting a pair of the Ediswan's  next.

Cool. I don't have any recommendations for the ZMA except to get a better amp, like the Torii Mk III.

Thought I`d leave a pair for you Mark Smiley Yes $8 postage. £31.03 all in for the pair. I`m surprised you haven`t done any rolling in the CSP. Not that I have really. I have a quad of Bugle boys and a quad of Phillips green label, 6dj8`s, which I use. 4 in the Rachaels and 3 in the CSP2+. I can swap the sets over. The 6n1p`s will certainly be noticable from the standard config which have become reliable for adding to the present synergy so I will post my impressions.

Marky,  I did try a couple different Rectifiers in the CSP3 but returned to the Valve Art 274 B that came with it.  As far as the other positions,  I have a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8's that I alternate with a pair of Amperex 7308's in my Zen Signature mono blocks depending on which speakers I'm using.  The Torii had the stock inputs switched out with a pair of the 7308's...I have enough spares that I could put three in the CSP3 that's hooked up to the Torii.  To tell the truth, everything sounds so good right now, I have stopped rolling for the past two or three months.  Mark.

I have tried a bunch of 6DJ8, 6922, 7308 type tubes and I don't think you can beat the 61NP tubes in the output spots.

Well they arrived this morning, I gave them 3hrs on standby ( did a quick up-to-max-and-back on the CSP2+ and was reassured again how quiet the ZM3/ZMC1 has become. )  First impressions this evening are good. Theres no doubt they need to sort themselves out a bit with burning in. 2nd album in and I noticed more ambients than my Philips 6922/6dj8`s. Theres something about these I like a lot.  Still a bit raw. I know JL Hookers `Cafe-A-Go-Go` well and now it sounds more exciting.

The tubes have had a good run now, around 100 hrs so I decided to put my Philips 6922`s back in to make a comparison. While doing so I found a fault with one, a quiet buzz out of one channel that only went away when I turned the pre out on the CSP2+ down one click on one channel. I`d forgotten all about that. Anyway I`ve got 4 of them so found the bad one.
Soundwise the 6922`s aren`t much different. Same volume, maybe a bit more organic and finesse. When I put the Russian 6n1p`s back in, in a few months they`ll be a nice roll.

Well Marky,  I'm still waiting.  I ordered the Tubes from Russia on Dec, 11th.  I'll wait a couple more weeks before I contact the seller. Take a look at what I get when tracking the package. It looks like it's been in the same place since Dec. 19th.

By the way, how did you like the tubes?  Mark.

Thats bizzare Mark. I didn`t even know they had tracking on them as they were an inexpensive buy going through what I supposed was normal post. They must have passed their estimated time of arrival ages ago and the seller must think you have them and not left feedback yet. Mine actually dropped through the letter box so not signed for or handed over.
They sound very good and I liked them for 100 hrs before I had to put the Philips 6922`s back in just to see what the difference was.
The 6922`2 are a tad mellower. I may, or will take the no.1 spot 6922 ( all 3 are) and put one of the 6n1p`s in to see what happens.

Yes, economy int postage. All I can find is e-bays confirmation of payment. I tend to go on a delete binge when all orders have been delivered and no issues....which is now due. I may have deleted confirmation of receipt and dispatch notification but cant remember if I deleted them.

Syd,  the estimated time of arrival per ebay is Jan. 1st to Jan. 19th, so I'll give them more time.  I may be paranoid but I've considered the possibility of the Russian Post screwing with mail to the US due to the situation in the Ukraine and Russian Sanctions by the US.  I've never considered buying from anywhere but the US on ebay before now, although I'm tempted sometimes.  Mark.

Tracking no. is right under the order, I just noticed it. :
Estimated delivery Tue, 30 Dec - Mon, 12 Jan
Tracking number: RA ********RU

it was delivered 22nd Dec
oh and I did sign for it, my scrawl appears as proof.

I dont think they are investigating py_alexey or have sent him to the salt mines yet so you should be in the clear.   Wink

I tried a different angle this time, instead of just putting tubes in and rolling with it I tried to tailor the sound. The Russian 6n1p`s although good had a bass that was radiating a bit to much raw power. The title track on Coltranes "My Favourite Things" album has the bass player playing the same few notes right behind Coltrane, right through the long track and it really startef to grind.
After taking thr 6n1p`s out yesterday I put them back in today and had a change round with the ZP3 tubes. Using side 1 of "Round About Midnight" K. Burrell, I swaped tubes `till it came together and kept the `air` and room reverb (Kenny Burrells sax player exhibits both those qualities on the album) and lost the raw edge of the bass while still being loudish in a good way and tunefull.
A ribbed TFK 12au7 was the main change in no3 spot on the ZP3. I kept in a Mullard 12ax7 at no 1 and tried 3 or 4 12ax7`s in no2 spot untill I got what I was looking for.
Playing My Favourite Things now and it`s fab.

That should read "Midnight Blue".
So it`s a thumbs up for the Rusky 6n1p-E`s.
Mark should have his soon, be interesting to see if he has to tame the bass or that I had an issue with a tube in the ZP3, it was a nos mullard long plate D getter 12au7  that I swapped out for the TFK. I think the Mullards can be a bit rich so it was a double whammy maybe.

been running mine this past week with stock 6n1p's in output and ediswan cv2492/6922 input.  like this combo a bunch!

before that 6n23p... didn't like so much.

next on the dock is a amperex 7308 gold pin.

Except for the Phillips that's about what I've settled on for now in the CSP3.

White label Amperex 7308...input
60's Triple Mica 6N1P-EB...outputs
Stock Valve Art 274B...rectifier

I may try the 46' double getter RCA 5R4GY I have but right now I've got too many changes going on to mess with it.  Mark.

I thought I'd jump back in with another recommendation, this time for an
input tube. This one:http://www.upscaleaudio.com/telefunken-e88cc-6922/ is killer. Plenty of sparkle without being harsh, and that's with the
Sennheiser HD800's (I listen with them exclusively on the CSP) which has
a rep for being a tad bright. A very well balanced tube, glorious mid's and
solid bass.

With this tube I'm done looking.

I got a cryo'ed platinum btw.

yeah i've been wanting to try that one for awhile.  little pricey to just try, so good to hear they work well in csp's.

what are you running in other positions?

seems like no matter what combo of tubes i always come back to my nos amperex 7308 (orange label if that matters) in the input position.  just love that tube!

normally run the stock 6n1p's in the outputs, but this last week i've been running a set of NOS mullard ecc88's ('67) and like them too.

current tube setup:
input amperex 7308
output mullard ecc88's (but those 6n1p's are hard to beat)
rec mullard metal base 5ar4 ('57)

seems to be a pretty good combo..

Trip. If those are orange PQs, don't know if it is across the board, but the ones I have (and have looked at) are early 70s and the white ones are 60's. They sound pretty different, but both nice I think. The later ones are not as warm and textural, more linear with more edge definition. I like the early 60s best, having that mysterious thing a really good tube can do. But maybe yours are the 7308 from Upscale??? Doesn't he claim most of those are the same as the famous PQs making them 60s I guess???

Anyway, I can imagine either sounding really good with Mullard ECC88s. I like the A frame and hallow getter pulls I got some years ago...open, textured, with that special Mullard warmth...detailed warmth, especially the hallow getters. Nice sounding tube set regardless! I guess it is friendly, revealing, spacious and textural....also fast and dynamic with that GZ34!

I ran across an Upscale Telefunken E88CC for half price and not even burned in. It sounded powerful and deep with promising detail, highs and mids, but muddled and congested low mids down for a long while. Once burned in, still quite warm, but very revealing of all that is there in a sweet but dignified way... it just says "I am a very high quality tube," at least if the other tubes let it open up. For me it is demanding it is so big and warm. With an open RCA 5R4GY, still I seem to pick generally more open and less warm output tubes in order to compensate, letting the Telefunken out! But finally I agree with Funch, very nice tube...

I liked 6N1Ps in the power position when my CSP3 had stock caps, but after the empty background and fine detail from Jupiters, even the triple mica 6N1Ps sound solid, detailed and warm, but they are still missing important micro information in my setup.

Before this current tube set I was using an early 50s Tungsol 5R4GY, some early 60s Los Gato labelled Sylvania 6922s, and in front, a TEONEX labelled PCC88. This was a great set, the rectifier open and a little warm; these 6922 warmish but articulate, dynamic, extended and detailed; and this PCC88 very spacious and textured with a subtle, sweet taste of "real"...very nice.

But right now I have the Telefunken E88CC in front, some Ediswan CV5358/ECC88 in the middle and the RCA 5R4GY rectifier. Beautiful sound! Though warmer than my usual preference I hear no downside from the warmth, without any detail masking. These Ediswans are extended and open, warm, and go quite low for a ECC88. And then that Telefunken, full, detailed and smooth, it does something really seductive as long as the tube set lets it breath, and the open RCA 5R4 really helps there.

I find it cool some use some common variations of the same tube families all over the place.  I currently have a Valvo GZ34 (I've fallen in love with all the Blackburn recifiers and have a bunch so I don't ever run out). With two Siemens 66 E188CC being led by a 67 Telefunken E88CC in front in my CSP2+. It is my favorite combo and something I use in my Torii III often alternating between OB2 and OC2 cleaning up with some interesting affect.

JD (or anyone else). Is there a Blackburn GZ34 vintage or construction you prefer. Hard to tell from pictures, but it looks like there are a few varieties of wider plates with different numbers of edge notches, and then I saw one from 59 that looked like it has narrower plates and even more notches...looks like some of the reintroduced copies.

If you do prefer one can you explain the sound and differences.

Will,

Most all of the factory made Blackburn's I have are seven notch.  I have a couple that have what seem to be copper in the notches and a few that don't.  Most are dated 64-67.

I've seen the narrow plated ones but have never bought or heard any.  Mine are all the thicker gray plates.  I prefer gz34 over 5u4g because they increase the depth of sound, more of the music gets through and Mullards are tremendously smooth. I've got a couple that seem to be dated in 58 or 59 but haven't used them yet.

Thanks, I appreciate it! That tube is a legend isn't it? I am using Mazda GZ32 in the Torii and love them, but have tried a number of others I like less. And, at least with my current setup, the same tube in the CSP3 seems a little exaggerated, A Brimar GZ32 even moreso, and a Sylvania GZ34 I have likewise....so fishing. Never heard anything but Mullard GZ34 copies. I used some Sovtek in my MKIII for a while. But then every tube is its own thing..........

yes the orange label amperex is from upscale.
ive had a tele e88cc in most of summer.  i loved it at first then over time and other tweaks in my system it got a little too much for me up top.
have tried some ediswans 6922's from upscale too... little to warm for my system.
always come back to the amperex and love it.
prior to the metal base gz34 i was running a GE branded mullard black base GZ34 think '69 vintage.  i like that one a bunch too (they are well worth the $50-80).

Interesting Trip. I can see why American Amperex suit you if the Tele became too much up top. I ran one for a long time in the front of the CSP3 and it does have a nice revealing, but smooth top. Though I do like that Telefunken, for quite a while I wondered why I was even trying it was so thick. But with all Upscale's hype and the Tele mystique, I figured it had to have something good about it, so struggled through, complimenting it with tubes that balance it. Now I really like it, though as I said...it took some work here with adjustments and tubes.

You guys talking about the GZ34s, I stuck in a Sylvania "fat boy" GZ34 and it sounds good...powerful, open and dynamic, though this GZ34 has its own slight veil of dark that tends to keep it out of my system. I have liked it a few times in the CSP3, but usually like others more, lately some slower but still open 5R4GYs. But I do have my MKIV tuned for speed and adding more at the CSP3 may be too much. Have to listen a while.

As an experiment, I tried some GZ32s, closer to a 5AR4 speed. A few made the top of the CSP3 way too hot, but a Mazda semi-fat boy seems pretty neutral, smooth and dynamic while being big, but spacious. I am always impressed how parts effect the sum of our system/room sound.

Never tried the Ediswan 6922. Years ago I got some National PCC88s from Upscale. I found it a nice tube, but not a favorite PCC88... generally a little too technically correct sounding for me, lacking the vitality I need for the live player sound I love. The Upscale hype bugged me before, but after trying this tube, even more. Along with relatively steep prices, after that I have avoided Upscale though I may go there in a fix.

It is wild to experience how some tubes are so demanding but potentially worth the work to get synergy. At this point I am glad to have gotten hold of one of the Upscale Tele (though I doubt I'd pay 170 for it! Mine was 80). So far, when I try to put something else there, it has qualities that make me keep it in and see if I can get the sound better using it. Interesting and challenging suits me though.

50-80 sounds doable to try a Blackburn made GZ34. Maybe prices are up just now, but I have not been able to find any near NOS that inexpensive. I will keep an eye out. Thanks.

To all in the market for tubes for Decware gear: His "labeled" Mullards are way too much but there is an ebay seller chris2159 that is selling some awesome tubes right now out of Texas.  I have absolutely no affiliation with him but have bought 8-10 tubes from him and he has been legit and the tubes phenomenal.

Now I am in the labrynth!

With the slightly warm way my Torii is set (I was trying to leave it the same and just change the CSP3), the Ediswan ECC88/6DJ8 in the CSP3 power positions ended up having slightly loose bass on some material, and a little darkness low mids for some material, though clean mid/upper mids up. Back to the solidity and relative neutrality of 60s Sylvania gold pin 6922 with D getters. In front still the 60s Telefunken E88CC, and now, a Brimar GZ32 rectifier.

With five tube positions in the Torii, and three in the CSP3, it is hard for me to think of it as two things anymore. More, for tuning, I can adjust tubes in any one of the 8 positions to effect changes I want. At the same time, this makes it a little hard to determine "the best tubes" for the CSP3. Over time I seem to have loved a lot of them!

Hi Will. I've been enjoying tube rolling too. I use the Telefunken 6922/E88CC top spec'd NOS Platinum for my input tube in my CSP3. I call it the Master and Commander tube. For my output tubes in my CSP3, I did not like the Tele's paired in there. But, now have the other Tele (I bought two before the price increase at Upscale) for down the road in the input CSP3 (6000 hours from now).

I also don't like the National's in the output of my CSP3 or input paired on my ZMA. I will put the two platinum NOS pair I have on Audiogon soon. I use the 6N1P-EV's from Steve in my outputs for CSP3. I will try a pair of Cryoed 6N23P-EV's in here soon. Glad I bought a quad of the 6N23P-EV's (the good ones)....when they were available from Cryoset!

You can see my full signature of tubes below. MY FAVORITE Tubes are in my ZMA for Input A12 an B12......Ediswan's CV2492/6922's (NOS Platinum)!! As much as I like the 6N23P-EV's.....the top air extension and bass slam with definition of the Ediswan's here are tops.  The midrange texture to die for.

I need to try a GZ32 Rectifier or two.  Cheers

Hey Stone,

Sorry I missed this one. Sounds like some nice tubes going over there!

I tried 3 6N23P in the CSP3 a few days ago and they were notably variable, one with a brown, rounded five sided symbol on the tube...pretty warm and deep; the next (older cryoset super cryo) leaner and less bass than the first; and one labelled Zearix with gold pins, cleaner still with less bass still, and quite textured. They were all were nice enough tubes, but still I prefer the early 60's Sylvania gold pin (El Gato labelled) with D getters at this point...at least the way my system is tuned.

I do like the Mullard type coke bottle GZ32. To me they are warm but you hear pretty deep in. Also fast and relatively extended. I have one labelled Mullard and some labelled Mazda. Whether the same tech, or both made by Mullard I can't say, but the only difference I see is the "Mullard" has one D Getter and the others have two. I see RCA 5U4G-ST having more profound differences based on time made. The other NOS brands I have tried are  nice, but to me less balanced, most tending toward a thinner top and warmer bottom. Altering the balance a bit, they need the right setting more.

Are they better in the CSP3 than nice 5U4G-ST or 5R4GY? I don't think so. Just different flavor. Whereas in the Torii, last I checked, I have preferred these particular GZ32 over other types for a while. Warmth and body without detail loss. There is a bit of extension loss, but the flavor of warm-fast-open-with-body is really easy to work with.

Stone. I hope that Phillips works in your system. To me it was good like the national 7DJ8s are good...Almost really good, but sort of conventional, and in the case of the Phillips, lacking inner detail and spacious character compared to others I have of the 5R4GY type. Once burned in, I tried off and on for a few years and was always impressed at first with something about their "solid" nature, but they rarely stayed in more than a few hours having a little veil I couldn't get past given that I had other choices.  Hopefully it will be different there, but this to me indicates the difference between a top tier tube and "almost"...The latter has a lot of good stuff going on, but not world class in my experience.

I don't gush about tubes because systems are so variable, and I don't think that a tube sounding awesome here means it will there, though it may be an awesome tube. Might be just OK (or not) the way your system/room is tuned, where the way another's is tuned might bring out the best of the tube. So I try to just point to their qualities so folks can decide if those comparitive qualities may benefit their system.

If I were to talk about the Mullard GZ32 like I imagine it would be if  "Uncle Kevy," were selling them, I would say it is a truly world class tube, the bargain of the century, get them while you can etc, etc......and there would be some truth to that in this case.

I am obviously not Upscale, but I also don't use tubes that don't sound world class to me.

I use this particular GZ32, because to my ears, it is at top of the type (I have tried I think 6 different NOS makes), and I like qualities about this type enough to use them all the time in the Torii, and lately, for an extended period in the CSP3. And I have really nice rectifiers of all types. That said, I have not heard NOS Telefunken GZ32 that a friend I trust the ears of liked a lot in his system.

But this Mullard GZ32 is a great tube...and the price of them reflects that in general.

I got my Mazda coke bottles from a highly rated, experienced tube seller with good testing, from Georgia...not the US one. I do the auction thing on Ebay now and then...but prefer the reduced stress of "buy it now," where, with persistence, really good deals show up. These were true NOS, looked just like Mullards, and were about 80 for a pair delivered. They looked and acted brand new, needing burnin. As soon as I heard them I ordered the other pair he had. The Mullard labelled one I got was used, but tested near NOS and from another highly rated seller that sold mostly other stuff, but had tubes and they tested well...about 30 delivered.

These are excellent prices comparatively, but they happen checking in regularly.

They are one of favorite rectifiers here. Going out on a limb I don't like, from what I can gather from what you talk about loving, I suspect you might like it, but can't say for sure. The speed, warmth, body, and inner detail fits in with what we get from the CSP3. Compared to 50's RCA 5U4G-ST, they are still alive sounding though less passive; a little less extended, but tightish on bottom, and the bass here is still big and bold with the tubes I am using; they are also punchier and more articulate, but with warm body, good micro information and texture...not hard.

So compared to the early 50's RCA, these are a variation of very good to me....

Thanks for the great info Will. You have tried 6. I'm just going to bring in 2 or 3 from Upscale and also 1 or 2 others over the next half year.

The rectifier position is my final frontier. I have all my other positions covered/have found for my ears, for my CSP3 & ZMA with 2nd and 3rd pairs....putting me out to 12,000 to 18,000 hours.

***For example, I snapped up a balanced quad from Cryoset (back in February of 2014-no longer available).....Croyed 6N23P-EB's! Yes, EB's, constructed differently when inspected, than the stock 6N23P's sent with the ZMA. I have a pair in my Inputs of my ZMA right now. Glorious tubes....kicking the stock 6N23P's to Inverter position status. Now I have the Ediswan's & these, to rotate in and out for ZMA Inputs. Each set doing its own glorious things for my Music!

The Rectifiers that are not for my ears.....I  will recoup 65 to 75 cents on the dollar/sold.  Worth the investment and loss, to find the right one or two.

I have some true NOS Sovtek 6922's (brand new-never used) to sell after the new year (I purchased in 2004 & 2005). To busy at the post office right now (to stand in line) to post and sell the balance of them I have available. This will yield $ cash to buy a couple....maybe three Rectifiers.......... .

Sounds like a good strategy Stone. Once our rooms and needs are personalized to the levels you have, the limitations of having just a few tubes to roll certainly limits the potential of new additions working right off. But then, like you say, buying and selling popular tubes until you find the "right" ones for a position is safe enough, reselling pretty easy.

Personally, and relatively speaking, I rarely pay much for tubes, waiting for good buys, so I have gotten in the pattern of just keeping the ones that have great qualities even though they may not be a perfect fit in the current tube set. This gives me more flexibility for tuning to new tubes, and changing up the beauty in sweet and different ways, and thus hearing and loving the music in different ways. To shift the sound a little (or a lot), and within the general sound balance I need, also tends to help unfold a better baseline as I go. But at this point, I have a ridiculous number of tubes and haven't used a lot of them lately, supporting perhaps something in between our approaches. They are all nice tubes though !@#$%^&*() and part of why I have kept in the Torii camp...these tubes I have work in all my amps, all told, making it difficult for me to become a seller. I will though once I put aside some time to do some tube testing and posting.

We just listened to an acappella record not heard for a long time, and both my wife and I were in awe with very complete information that is nuanced, complex, rich and natural. I heard aspects of voice and space I had not heard as deeply. Another thing I am getting that shows up every so often here, is how subtle and natural the pace is, slower things seeming slower, nuance of note tensions more noted, faster and complex parts...more defined without feeling dissected in any way. I don't depend on this heightened quality of pace (it is always really good), but when it happens, and I also love all the rest of the presentation, it increases the grateful awe factor!

EDIT: All I did to bring this subtly heightened black background, spaciousness and detail was change from a 40's OB3 to a slightly warmer 50s OB3, and put a tube damper on the Telefunken in front of the CSP3, the only damper on there now.

You are right, I probably should and will hang on to the 2 or 3 rectifier's I bring in and be really thorough over time with these great EB's and Ediswan's I love, via rotation of my rectifier's and these Input ZMA Tubes.

I know, isn't it a grateful awe factor with these great Amps and CSP3!

On the other hand, I'm interested in Steve's new ZTPRE sans Rectifier. However, I don't think their is a headphone jack in the new ZTPRE? So, keeping my CSP3 w/Jupiter Caps for my awesome Sennheiser HD 600's (300 ohm) / OTL of CSP3....is a must.

Hey, that raises the question: I will ask/post....ZTPRE needs to have headphone access or = deal breaker!

Does anyone use a current productionEmission Labs (EML) 5U4G mesh plate rectifier?  If yes, is it worth $315 or there are better NOS rectifiers around that price?

Re: Very nice tube for CSP

The EML 5U4G states maximum of 40uf capacitor. The CSP3 has a 47uf cap.

The tube might work, however it will most likely fail early.

The 5 year warrantee isn't valid.

I would look at NOS options. I don't have any suggestions for you, but If you look around the different tube rolling threads, there is a lot of discussion.

Thanks.  I understand that its lifespan might not be as long as with NOS tubes.
I was just more curious about the sound comparing for example to an USAF 596 which I love.  I have 6 rectifiers right now but always looking for some new options.
