Happy to report that I'm not experiencing any motor boating.  Dead quiet,  I don't have the ground cable connected between the TT and the pre. Thought I'd try it without first and its so quiet I haven't bothered to connect it.

Stick to the Zen method, if you don't need it don't use it. Simple is better.
