Static in left channel
12/13/13 at 22:19:25

So I've got slight but present static in my left channel when using my digital source. It's a squeezebox. Nothing in my right. The static is only really noticeable during quiet passages. It's in the left channel despite what input I switch to. It goes away if I turn off that channel. I've moved the squeezebox and the static stayed the same. Any thoughts?

Does it stay with the squeezebox or does it stay with the MT on the left channel?

hello,

if by static you mean a crackling noise and if it does indeed come from the MT, it is probably the 47k carbon comp resistor that needs replacement. I had a few die on me and I once inadvertently used a 1/3 watt naked z foil in that position (power rating way too low).

What I thought is that you might try switching tubes from one channel to another and see if the noise follows. It is easy to do, and quick to eliminate the tubes themselves.

Ok, more troubleshooting completed... it was not the 0C2 tube.
I have tried 3 different input tubes, and 2 0C2 and 0A3 tubes. The noise stays with the channel. I swapped the speakers as well as the input tubes across channels and no different.

I have concluded it is inside the MT, the resistor mentioned above is very likely. I have messaged Steve on the forums as I do not have the new email address for Steve.

I will call in on Monday.

Thanks again for the help.

At least you have narrowed it down. FWIW, Decware does not take calls on Mondays, but the rest of the week will work. I am also hoping that it is just that resistor and nothing else. The Decware amps are fairly simple circuit wise, so that is a plus for sound, and repair.

Is this "static"  a constant buzz that comes and goes as you raise or lower the gain with the attenuator? Or is it truly static. My right channel does the same thing. The attenuator constantly pops on that channel and Steve and I have discussed sending the amp back.
