Yeh, I've done it a few times but it's only worth the hassle for really dirty and valuable records, like a plumb-label Pink-Floyd from the flea-market.
I found it easier to do this in a two part process, first a layer of glue,let it dry a bit then another layer of glue and a whole peace of paper over the record, makes pealing it off less problematic.
