!K Resisters and 0.1uf Cap
06/01/11 at 23:20:38

I bought the ZKIT-1 a while ago and have finally got around to staring it.
After putting all the recognizable components on the circuit board I found that the only two resistrors left were light brown and very small. They were supposed to be 1K 2W. I would have expected a larger resistor than the normal small size. They were the same size as the other 1K resistors just a slightly lighter colour. Do I go and buy 2w resistors and if so is there anything special about them.
Secondly the two 0.1uf 400v caps are not marked that way, they have  F 104k S 630MEB1 written on them. They look like caps to me rather than resistors are these the correct caps?
Please let me know if I am on the right track.

The parts sound right.  "104k" on a capacitor stands for 10 x 10 ^4 pf
or 100,000 pf where 10^6 pf = 1 uf.  So 100,000 pf = .1 uf .  The resistors ares probably ok too.  Any cheep DVM ($10) should verify they are 1k ohm.  I belive they are precision wire wound resistors and are quite a bit smaller physically than what you would expect a 2w resistor to be.  If you don't have a DVM you should go buy one.  You really shouldn't be building a kit like this without one.

Thanks for your informative reply. Yes I do have a DVM and knew that the resistor was 1K but was unsure that it was 2W as it was very small.
I now look forward to finishing my project.
