My TV has Audio out with RCA jacks, AND Audio Optical out with an odd looking cable connector. I would guess most of the newer TVs have this.  If I am right in assuming this optical out is further upstream in the television's circuitry than the RCAs out, then would it be a sonic improvement to TV shows to add an optical in jack on the CD player to send the television signal through the appropriate circuitry of the CD player?

I guess this would be to patch in between the transport and the DAC chip.
