NFX with Twin DFR65s ?
07/11/10 at 06:28:48

How would a NFX sound if the single DFR8 were replaced by two DFR65s with one of the whizz cones removed?
I ask this thinking of the high praises the Transmission Line speaker got with this driver set at a Decfest a few years back.

Brian,

I see no reason you couldn't use the dual DFR65,s in the NFX. The drivers in the dual trans-line speaker are modified differently to work in that trans line set up, and are not Steve's DFR65.

I see.
Would you expect twin sixes to sound better or worse than the single eight?  Or no significant change?

Brian,

The main reason I went with the two 6-1/2" drivers was to tame the top end by adding some more bottom end. I don't see where it would be any more beneficial  using the dual drivers in the NFX. Other than it would be 1 dB more efficient and a 4 ohm load, which a Zen amp would benefit from.

Thank You Bob.

I am always trying to do my part to improve audio, but I guess my recent batch of ideas are not it.

Thanks for the information.
