Three listens this morning to chronicle. Did a tube swap in my ZROCK2 that is giving me interesting results, and my little furry companion Fiona sleeping on my chest caused me to have a fifteen minute nap in the middle. . . which is probably a good thing.

First

Miles Davis "Filles De Kilimanjaro" Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD

This is one of my favorite recordings ever and this is my favorite digital version.

Then:
Vandever "Regrowth" New Amsterdam cd

Kalia Vandever: compositions and trombone
Immanuel Wilkins: alto saxophone
Lee Meadvin: guitar
Paul Cornish: piano
Nick Dunston: bass
Connor Parks: drums

Interesting music. Kalia Vandever's compositions are interesting as is her playing and there's Immanuel Wilkins here. . . a sign of quality.

Now:
Yusef Lateef "Eastern Sounds" OJC RVG Edition cd

Great music. There are numerous criticisms of Blue Note's RVG series, some of which I can agree to on some issues, but the Prestige series is overall very good sounding.

The volunteers were given a box of LPs by Atlantic Records, and this volunteer didn't like jazz so he gave me the three jazz LPs he got. Leo Wright "Blues Shout" Atlantic Records (mono).

I got this last year and during the mess of moving to a new home, it got lost in the shuffle.

I found it today while organizing some new shelf work I have done. I opened it for the first time and, it is getting a second play. As a "member" I got it before it was released, but I had not opened it. Busy at the time it arrived!

I'm pretty sure I have everything he has released, including the Beth Hart and other collaborations including the European tours with performers I had never heard of before.
Played some others for my brother in law this past week end while they were here.
I asked if he liked Joe Bonamassa. I knew he liked old rock and blues. He said, "Joe WOT?"
It was time for schooling!
I don't think it's his best, but still worth a few minutes.

I love the flute violin frontline as well as the alto trumpet line on the second side. And my over 50 year old LP still sounds great.

Re-visiting Hubert Laws "Crying Song" CTI/Beat Goes On cd.

This is a fascinating release. Originally arranged and scored for a Stanley Turrentine date, Hubert Laws was called in as a replacement. And with large stringed and brass orchestration and multi-tracked flute pieces that seem a bit psychedelic . . . it's a treat to listen to. And . . . those song choices. Wild!

Lawn Boy was recorded on a 2" 16 track tape in Vermont and dubbed down to 1/4" 2 track with mostly live takes and very little effects. Uncompressed music that will fill the room and eliminate point source in the head vice annoyance of a SET.

Amazon came up first of course and they offer a used copy for $78. Found it on Tidal so I can at least get a taste. Very nice!
