Re-listening to this one. This is my first exposure to the two women saxophonists in this quartet, and to the leader on drums, having heard him on piano before.

Interesting music, seems Coleman inspired and following harmelodic structure, and also sounds rather fresh and contemporary, helped in that aspect by excellent recording. I have one more of his recordings I will put on soon.

Now, a shift in gears perhaps, but music I love as well: Duke Ellington, “Volume 6: 1929” Masters of Jazz (Media7, France)

Sometimes I try to imagine how this music would see and feel like performed by these guys in 1929. I cannot conjure an accurate image, but the imagining is fun. It has an impact for me now, and imagine an even greater impact to many at that time.

OutKast - ATLiens 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

Not my normal listening material, but I have been enjoying some classic Rap/Hip Hop albums from my teenage years as they are have their 25th or 30th anniversaries.  

Well, the track ATLiens very clearly defines the need for a bass trap in the room.  The whole room goes into resonance.  

Overall, enjoyed it, but not something I'd seek out again.  The instrumental tracks will make it into a playlist to listen to at work.

I was about halfway through the 8th disc in the US box set when DHL delivered the Japanese UHQCD version so i am now listening to disc 8 from that box set.

I was nearby once in the middle of the 'seventies but didn't get there.

Going way back. . . Duke Ellington "Vol. 3 1926-1927" Masters of Jazz cd

I like this series as the transfers are very good with minimal processing, and things are in chronological order which in Ellington's case usually means a handful of labels each disc.

Ellington of any period is interesting to me. I've stayed away from the earliest period for too long. . . I'll make up for that.

Time to start contributing I think.

Disc 5 of the UHQCD version from Japan of Lee Morgan "Complete Live at the Lighthouse." This box set has been really scratching an itch for me and I'm working through it a second time, this time backwards, discs 8 to 1.

Been too long since I listened to some dark starlight shining.

A very nice date with piano or vibes only on two tracks, the rest just Woods, Burrell, Carter and Tate. Swing indeed. Nice remastering on this most recent reissue from Japan!

Henry Franklin "The Skipper at Home" Black Jazz/Real Gone Music cd



This disc screams "Seventies" in a nice controlled voice. They got the mastering right on this series of reissues.

Continuing with my second time through this  box set, first time with the Japanese edition. I'm going backwards this time. . . .

Disc 3 of the UHQCD version from Japan of Lee Morgan "Complete Live at the Lighthouse."

I hear several complain of compression on this new mix. . . I certainly hear dynamic contrast and it's certainly not overly loud in my system. Nor do I hear heavy bass as some have reported.

SRV....Couldn't Stand The Rain. MOFI One Step...The whole album sounds unbelievable. Drop the needle on Tin Pan Alley, sit back and enjoy. SRV and Double Trouble at their best. Sounds amazing.

So glad this is now available on cd! I didn't want to spend the dollars on the 2 LP set as I didn't need the book and the price was too high. . . and I'm not buying new vinyl.

The second disc is a concert with Jacky Terrason on piano, looking forward to hearing that later this week.

I'm a huge Barney fan. I've had this on cd for a long time. It's not one of my very favorite Wilens but I'm always going to enjoy listening to Barney.

Took a LOOOOOONG time to release, but was worth the wait.

Mose Allison "Autumn Song" Prestige/OJC cd.

I short-change Allison's piano playing and shouldn't--his was a real talent and he fused a true jazz style with a swing of its own.

And then there's that uniquely phrased flowing voice.

My LP playback is so much better since I last played this! Young, brash Woody. and Ron Casrter and Benny Maupin really shine.
