Jackie McLean "Capuchin Swing" Japan 24bit by RVG cd.

In previous incarnations of my system I did not like this version of this release. But it sounds pretty good today. As if you were seated in the studio or at a club really close to the performers. And it's interesting music--bebop with an exploratory edge--seems closer to the original bop than hard bop . . . to me. . . today.

This fit the bill long with the California Ramblers. Lon pointed me in the right direction last year, and I’ve been enjoying music from this time period.

This one scratches two itches for me: one to hear Mr. Elling, one to hear Mr. Harris. "Resolution" is a masterwork. Earlier this morning I listened to the Sonny Rollins tracks from this LP added to an Essential Jazz cd that included the "What's New" LP.

These sides recorded at the Music Inn are astonishing. Sonny in 1958 was like a monolith standing tall and his ecstatic playing encompasses jazz history with Bud, Pres, Hawk, Bird and Monk in his mind and breath and a mastery of both the horn and the art of voicing idea and melody.

Mainstream/Solid Records Japan cd I love this woman's singing. Though I prefer her with a small combo, this is a nice big band date where she really responds to the big sounds backing her. Her phrasing was so nimble yet solid. And I'm not a big fan of vibrato but hers I dig a lot.

Miles Davis (and Gil Evans) "Porgy and Bess" Mobile Fidelity SACD

New (to me) speaker cables in place and this disc is sounding killer for possibly the first time (I thought it sounded really good before but it's delivered better now).

Evans created threads of sound as no one else. This is one of those albums you can listen to for decades (I have) and still be swept away within (I have, I am).

A Sunday kind of disc. This reminds me of the kind of music my Mom would like me to put on when she had time to relax and read. She was a big Rosemary Clooney fan. This isn't Clooney, but I think she would like it. Ralph Sharon is on piano and Herbie Mann is playing some nice flute accompaniment.
