I am building a home wrecker and reading through people's experiences. Had a questions about changing out subs after the box is completed. for example, if I quad load the box now and feel that i dont need (4) 15"s (who really does, but if your here...) how can i go about removing the two subs in the middle of the box. the top and bottom ones will come out no problem, but the inner two will not fit through the baffle. Should I just seal the top and bottom lids and keep the side removable? or if i build the box with the 4 subs will they be stuck in there for the life of the box?

I have the top and bottom lids removeable and clamshelled the two woofers directly together for each end. You can then insert them as a pair into the top and bottom. After testing the combo you can easily remove one woofer from each end and leave the other two. Of course you will have the magnets in the middle chamber if you leave the alignment as is but it will not be too hard to turn one around if desired. I prefer just two woofers vs. quad-loading. Quad-loading takes alot of power but is very good for reproducing the lower frequency ranges. It is really up to personal taste if quad-loading is your favorite or will two do enough damage. I have tried both set ups and was satisfied with just two. It is more than enough to piss-off the neighbors.

I was thinking that the baffle was required to go between the woofers(like the first pic). oh well, next time. Did find some spare time this weekend and finished the box. Packed in two 15"ers pointed up. Sounds great! Hits low! low res pics, but you get the idea

I'm not sure, did you put in two pair of drivers or two single drivers? What drivers are there in the box? Did you place the bottom ports firing towards the wall? Thanks for the pictures! Bart.

one 15" mounted to each baffle pointed up

powered with about 50watts to each woofer from a sony receiver i bought in '98.

went old school and used a coffee can and rounded over the lower ports with some sand paper. Thought about using the router...

I have not found the final location for where the box will be kept. still moving it around and facing the ports in every direction. more than likely it will stay where it is, @45degree w/ ports facing a corner.

I have a DB8 and 15" wedge too, i will snap a pic of them all together one of these days. who doesnt like pictures?

They need to stay straight, these are tuned to a certain frequency and effectively have a length of 3/4" to get to that tuning. Rounding them will tune the lower part of this box higher.

Definitely will leave them alone from here on out. chocolate rain...this box is like crack for my brain! O&A Dig this box a lot! The top port seems to allow me to put the box anywhere and still get good output. the DB12 was touchy with it's single port.

You can router the lower ports without much change in tuning. By doing this you can cut down on turbulance and maybe even port fart if you have such a problem. I have router both sides of the my HWK15 lower ports and tuning stayed the same. This is an option, you can just smooth the outsides of the ports like you said and have the same results. As far as clamshelling the only issue would be if the outside surround is to big and comes into contact with the other woofer's surround. A spacer or weather striping could be used to separate the woofers just enough to keep the surrounds from touching. If you need more info let me know.

Rounding them off and smoothing the edges will help with noise. the freq diff is minimal. Ditto on the job. I also like the comparisons Gex
