One of Steve`s Amps?
04/17/07 at 07:18:57

Found this while browsing Ebay.co.uk

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EL84-SET-amp-with-Decware-output-txs-and-Mullard-EL84_W0QQ...

The guy seems to be suggesting its been highly modified with quality components and has been built in a "Hammond Chassis"..... Looks like a stock Select chassis to me with a lump of wood stuck to the front.

Perhaps some of you guys with a lot more electronic knowledge would comment about the supposedly upgraded electronics, and perhaps what it might sound like?

Is it worth a bid at $300?

From eBay ad:

Quote:
"I’ve now built a version of the SE84CS using these transformers and other very high quality parts. This is a 240v UK/Euro version with Hammond 372FX mains transformer..."

Looks interesting. I don't think it's one of Decware's (Steve's) amps. I think eBay Steve cloned the design a bit and built it in a new chassis (if I read between the lines right). It certainly looks like a new chassis. Different color and speaker binding post placement than the "C". No direct inputs like the "CS". Jumbo toggles. Volume on front. Might be worth a shot. Design looks robust. Certainly "looks" like it might sound good. Not sure about the wood though. I could pass on that  ;D

That chassis is much wider and deeper than the stock one(just look at the distance between the opt's. I like the addition of the power choke bet it sound's good.

Hey guys,

Steve's a regular on EV's website, and he KNOWS what he's doing. If I hadn't caught this crazy diy disease, I would buy that amp in a heartbeat.

Thanks for that Crazy Bill

If the price stays sensible, I might just do that.
