Current sources for SV83
02/02/07 at 22:03:05

Greetings,

I'm back into Decware stuff after a long absence, so if this question has already been asked, please point me to the relevant thread in the forum.

I've read Steve's paper on the fake Svetlana SV83 tubes, and noticed the Decware catalog doesn't list this tube any longer. I'll certainly try out the mil-spec equivalent on my SE84B, at some point, but how about plain SV83s? Is there a source for these tubes that you can trust?

From the Decware master catalog:

6P15P-EV Russian (military SV83)  add to cart  $14.95
These tubes from the catalog should work just fine. I have also bought SV83's from DrN on this forum and tubes from Jim Mcshane.

If i were still using the SV83 tube, I'd try the military version (and probably from Steve).

I find the military version of 6N1Ps I have to be better than the Svetlana by a good margin.  It's even turned me from using 6922s which I had thought was a better choice for a few years.

Just imo; but the military 6n15n-ev's are GROSSLY superior to the more lightly built sv83 with the Svetlana stencil.

And again, the cryoed version is noticeably better still (again, imo).

Rayd

Let us know what they sound like, particularly if they are any better , or different than the stock SV83

I love the original SV83's (6n15nM), for their clean treble and the high frequency air and extension.  More space around the images too (air air and more there).  Are their still any out there?  But I am spliting hairs.  The military version SV83 is quite good and I love my Cryo'd pairs of these.

Mine arrived today and I popped a pair in. Initial impressions are very positive. I like them a lot. More weight, authority and volume.

Question though: I purchased these per Den's link. The eBay add says they are 6P15P-EVs but the tubes I am listening to are marked 6N15N-EB. The N's might be Cryllic "N"'s..? I dunno... According to this link, I think they are equivalent? Confused...

I want to add there's an added "liveness" to the presentation. I'm listening to a studio recording of Diana Krall. If I close my eyes, I get the impression I am listenin to a live performance through a small P.A. system - I mean this in a very positive way. This is nice!  [smiley=bounce.gif]

Ray, those are the correct ones. I had a bunch of them and sold them off when I sold the Sig. Monos. I should have given you a set to try. But you can find them through cheap enough Russian Suppliers. They are reputable too. Will be down to hear it soon.

Another good link> http://www.ominous-valve.com/russtube.html
they usually have the Reflector Corp, Saratov designation.

As Lon has mentioned, the military version of 6N1P is excellent too.I stopped using any 6922, 6DJ8   in that position. I also got a bunch direct from Russia with the Reflector Corp, Saratov designation logo. A Russian supplier by the name of "Zoltov" was very good. American currency must be worth quite a bit there to be selling so cheap? They make pretty damn good tubes.

I know, $3 bucks a tube. I can't get a sub for that!  :-) RobLikesTubes has some interesting observations on the 6N2P input on a strapped pair of Selects. Not sure I can use that on a single Select? Anyone know?
