Velocity disc design
01/19/07 at 10:03:20

Starting up the build of my WO32 again after 1.5 years hold due to new house and first child...
Reviewing the plans and they refer to a detailed specification of the velocity disc. Can't seem to find it in the papers I received. Can anyone please tell me what those specifications are? Or at least explain them briefly.
All other parts are cut out, just the disc missing now, and the hole for the woofer(s).
Thanks!

Well I don't know about specs, but they are halves of one speaker cutout.
center them, smooth the edges and place them at the second bend. You should see the pics of the WO32 and figure where.
This is simplistic but pretty much what you do.
you could get fancy on the edges of the cutouts

yea i found them a little weird to place exactly but went for the placement and curvature that made most sense after looking at the plans many many times. gex is on the money. they kinda compress and disipate the pressure im guessing   ???

Hello,
I recently built a WO32.  Had to stew on the velocity disk design also.  ??? Here is what I came up with.  Hope it helps.

I used a belt sander to rough it out then 60 grit sand paper to bring down the taper.

Great response! I have seen the drawings at one time but as I said, it's a while back. Thanks to you my memory is refreshed and I think I know how to do it now. Thanks!

Apart from completing Part F and actually fitting the drivers I'm not that far from doing a soundtest. I will try to remeber to make a report here...

Tested today! No lid on as of yet so I tested the box facing down on a carpet.
Not extremely impressed but maybe I need the lid... ?
Part F is still omitted in my box.

Noticed on the pictures in https://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm?/newsite/wo32.htm&intro that the sharp corners next to the velocity disc are made differently in the different pictures. Any comments on that?

Jonasmj,

What drivers are you using???    Don't forget the part "F", its probably one of the littlest most important parts there is!!!

The Raw MDF box half way down the page, was I believe my first build of a WO-32, the edges were rounded off incorrectly, if you look at the painted black box, Steve's build, you see the sharp edges smoothed slightly but still intact.

The box can sound pretty good with the lid removed and laying on the carpet.....

my wo32 sounded bad when pointing into the room, but when i turned it around, so the sound bounced off the wall or a corner it came to life.

try your wo32 pointing in many different directions. but not straight at you.
