PAINTING DB10

What kind of prep work will I need to do before painting my DB?  I work at an autobody shop and plane to use automotive base coat clear coat to make t match the color of my truck.  I know what it takes to prep a vehicle but never painted MDF.

MDF absorbs liquids...so you need to seal it up to get a nice finish and glossy

I'd suggest using sanding sealer or multiple layers of primer and sanding in between.

or you could paint on fiberglass resin and sand it down smooth..but that would just take way too long.

I'd say sanding sealer

"Shellac, lacquer, or oil-based primers are a must for the sealer coat on MDF that will be painted.  After the surface has been sealed and sanded smooth, you can use a water-based paint."  from Fine WookWorking magazine's "Working with MDF" article.

I'm have had good success using spray-on indoor/outdoor HELMSMAN Spar Urethane from MINWAX.  I have also used brushed on poly-urethane sealer with good results prior to carpeting or applying a vinyl cover.
