Want to use JBL P1022 in DB10, but it's too big?

I bought the following sub and want to use it in a DBK10-II:

P1022 Website

The problem is that the overall diameter is 12-7/16" which is larger than the 12" inner diameter of the DB10.  If I still want to use this driver, what should I do to compensate?

FYI, I am planning on using this in professional DJ applications (hotel ballrooms, dance halls, clubs, etc...) to compliment a pair of Mackie SRM450's and will power it with a Peavey cs800x (1200w at 4 ohms bridged) for headroom.

i'm very curious how the db-10 will perform in such large spaces.
you could make the db-10 big enough to fit the p1022. i don't think it will make a big diffrence.

Those are your best options right there- scale the db10 up a littl bit to fit your woofer, or use a db12 and make the hole smaller.

I would prolly go db12 with smaller hole for what its worth.  The db12 seems to go a little lower then the db10.

Well, the reason I wanted to use the DB10 was due to it's small size and weight as I DJ alone and don't have help to move equipment most of the time.

If I am going to need to build something larger anyway, would I then be better off with something like the WO or WO32 for this purpose? (I realize that I may be in danger of this thread needing relocation as it was originally about the DB10 size)

FYI, my original goal was to build something that could compete with the Mackie swa1501 for less money, without being significantly larger.  I believe that the driver I chose has the potential.  The amp sure has the power and was recommended by Steve over the phone, so now it's about the cabinet I would assume.

i wouldn't want to carry my db-10 around all by myself  :D
make the insert a tad wider than you woofer and it's going to be ok. maybe check to see if you can remove that stupid rim around the surround. i see absolutely no use for it.

I spoke to a speaker repair shop that recommended I do not remove it.  They believe it's there for structural integrity, despite the fact that it makes the OD about the size of a 12 rather than a 10.

Looking at the specs I see that the 15" box is 23.5" x 23.5" x 17.2"
The DB12 is 14x14x32

Honestly, I think the DB12 would probably kick a$$ in this case. It should play a lot lower at any rate. If you are needing a really serious chest thumping type of enclosure, the WO may be a better choice.
The DB12 with a 10" diaphragm is going to drop bombs down in the low low bass region, but it will slack off a bit as you raise the frequency up above 50hz.
The WO will be louder with 2 subs than the DB with only 1, but if you have 2 subs, and want to build 2 DB12s, that would be a pretty awesome call to have to make.
Of course you could call Steve and see if he thinks you woud do better just building the DB10 a hair bigger in order to accomodate the sub in question.
Choices to make there. Have to consider the reasons for each option in order to make one.

Good luck!

Robert

I'll keep trying to call Steve (only been getting his machine today) and ask his opinion.  I hope I'm not out of line by asking for opinions on the tuba subs in this forum.  Anyone have experience with them?

Says the guy with a HWK in his vehicle.... Tongue

that ring can be taken off I am sure- doesn't look structural at all- and if it comes off it isn't.  It would be glued on or welded if it was important.

Thanks for the offer 60, I live in Texas, so I don't know if it would be worth the shipping.  :-(

Also, I will have to look at the driver again, but I do belive that the ring is one piece.  I also believe it is part of the basket.

Hey 60,

If you need room in your garage, I can adopt some unwanted enclosures Grin

I'm in N. Cali (Hayward) and don't mind a little drive if you're not close...
