Simple DB question

So one of the main ideas behind the db is that it loads the cone of the sub evenly because of 1 (the 10" hole (brace) a few inches away from the speaker) and 2. because of the other pannel that acts kinda like a port.

My question is, why don't we just make this second port type pannel the a circle of the same area. I think that would actually load the cone more symetrically than a pannel that is 70% the distance of the cross section of the box.

Anyone see why this wouldn't work or why it would interfere with the design.

well, the reason i see is that if the piece you are talking about is indeed a circle, the port length will be dramatically changed.  Totally changes the design.

Also, I believe the folding is what equally loads the cone, not the shape of the ending of the port.
