Mount Drivers Flush?

Would there be much of a difference if i mount the two 15 in woofers on my imperial flush with the board?  That is counter sink the entire basket into the mdf so that the surround is flush with the board on the front?  I noticed some people counter sink their speakers into their enclosures.  Is there a difference?

You likely know better than I but I am told that countersinking the tweeter can change the sound and it will improve the sound by minimizing beaming.
Lots of old stuff counter sunk the basket of all the drivers, I like the look and I really don,t think it will make a huge differance. and if there is any differance it will be good if  the basket rim is flush with the board.

My opinion only. plus trying to remember some really old books that gave good reason to do it..
But not really remembering why.

I can't imagine why a 15" would sound any differant, but I would like to hear if someone knows conclusively.

I always counterbore my driver cutouts, but this really has nothing to do with the sound.  I can't see how it would make much difference there.  I do it because I think it looks more finished than surface mounting, and it protects the driver a bit.  Plus, this hides any unsightly edge damage to the driver basket, or gasket material beneath it.

I don't know about 15s, but in situations where the driver is playing higher frequencies, countersinking can change quite a bit.

The first thing that comes to mind is My TangBand W3-871S.  they absolutely sound better countersunk. But thats due to reducing a peak at like 12khz and filling a hole at 6khz. (something like that anyways)

I can't see the longer waves that a 15 is making to have an effect.

found this DIY site that goes in depth of flush mounting:

I really like htis guy's site, he is very smart, and is good at explanations.
