Infinity Reference 1040w Subs
03/31/06 at 16:45:09

For those that are/have run these subs, I was wondering if anyone is running more than the recommeded 250w rms each.  I have a couple and want to make use of the amp that I have.  Do you think I would have any trouble running 800w rms to the two?

Thanks

i haven't run the ref with more than 250w. but i have run 160w through a cheap 10, rated 80wrms. it's still alive.
my guess is that, with 400w/sub, they'll live, but not for several hours.

the main thing to watch out for is the peak rating for long periods.  RMS gives you an idea of what the amp can actually put out for long times, and what a sub can play for long times.  If you decide to run 400wrms to each, just watch the volume knob.

i have a single infinity 1030 4 ohm 10" in a sealed box in my single cab ranger. its the only smaller speaker ive found so far that would hold up to the 400 watts my 800a4 fosgae amp puts out in 3 channel mode. the older mtx and fosgate subs just died.
