Wicked two - design questions
12/08/05 at 17:57:11

so i noticed that the site says "Recommended amplification is between 90 ~ 500 watts"...

i have 8 amps (mono 600W 8-ohm) waiting to be used - could i run 600W to each speaker (8 drivers in 4 cabinets), or would that be too much for this enclosure?

i'll have to look around for some good hi-sensitivity drivers too...
i care more about SPL in 40-80Hz range than the ultra-low end...

are there any advantages in building a regular WO vs WO32?

also, where do they top out at - useable frequency-wise?

does anyone have 1w at 1m SPL-Freq Charts that compare  WO vs WO32?
VERY INTERESTED IN THAT!!!

Also, how do the Wicked two compare to Bill Fitzmaurice's Tubas?

-thanx for any input  ???

oh, also, is WO any better for higher SPL than WO32?
seems like big powerful drivers might feel better in that one...

wo32 is an audiophile sub. wo has been used for pa with good results, but a voice in my head whispers  "imperial" Wink

WO32 only 2 drivers per cab
WO32 not for SPL as Adrian states. Don't even entertain the thought. Per recommendation from Steve himself.
Use the WO and 4 drivers if you like output.
there are lots of ways for sheer volume. Jet ported a WO and it seems to be working well for him.
IMHO.

Edit: the above when I mentioned Steves name. I want to make sure I don't misquote him.
I was talking about modding the WO32 to 12"s He simply said to me why not build a 12" WO instead and leave the WO32 alone. I think his point was the WO has much more output, which he will get no argument from me.

I took it upon myself that he implied that the WO32 would not provide the SPL I was wanting.

I have to agree with Adrian.I've had WO's and moved to an Imperial. While the WO is an amazing sub it doesn't hold a candle to the imperial for shear bass impact.
Althought they are harder to move around!!

I had made a fullsize WO32, from pics and whatnot that I could find, and was not happy with the SPL (or lack of) that I was getting from it.

As Gex said, I have modded a WO but not in the way that most think. I didn't actually "port" it. I have 2 Kenwood KFCW2525DVC's and a Boss RIP-995 2000x4 amp(all in my car). Here's what I did:

The standard WO is 36x36, correct? I clipped it down to 24x24, still keeping the 12" tall pieces inside. My throat was taken down from 2x12 to 1x12. If your looking into the mouth of the enclosure, you see the two walls that should be 12.5x12 facing each other, making the mouth. That is where I put my speakers.

No one believes I only have 2 10's until I drop the seat. Then they're convinced I have a 15 or two hidden somewhere. Where do I hide a 15 in an Escort? It's unbelievably LOUD, accurate, and crisp. My speakers are also designed more for a sealed enclosure than ported.

I've got another one, sized up a little, for 2 12's. It's in its finishing stages right now, getting carpeted, and prettied up. I'll let you all know how it sounds, and get pics up when it's complete.

The WO is waaaayyy better for SPL than WO32.

EDIT: I'd really appreciate it, if my modded WO design does not get into the mainstream car audio scene, if you can at all help it.

The sheer size is the Imperials only disadvantage to me. Other than that its a win win situation. If I had the room I would have Imperial speakers and Imperial subs for my HT and maybe listening room too!.
When I built my carboard Imp it was downsized and I still found it too big to be practical for my use.

for pa use build the WO, imperials are loud but realisitcally too big to move often. also as there a rear loaded horn i reackon they may suffer the same phase reversal that scoop bins show giving cancellation around the 80-90 hz area (thump of the kick)
i presume wo's dont suffer from this although havent had change to accurately run them through smaart live to measure the response e.t.c.
if you are building Pa wo's i would suggest using 12"'s and getting the beyma lx60 range, dont pussy around with car drivers  ::)
there like steves but arguably better...

Richard,

Don't confuse the Imperials with scoops. Imperial behavior is much more closely related to a bass reflex cabinet, than a scoop type folded horn. The fact that they have a horn in front is not as relavent as the fact that the horn is loaded by a port connected to a large tuned chamber.

There will be some group delay associated with both the Imperial and Wicked One, but not so much with a scoop. The scoop has a whole different set of problems, which make the Imperial's GD a non-factor in choosing between the two.

I have used WO's for a small PA and it is pretty good. Amazing output for it's small size. I would love to hear your 12" Beyma WO's. Cheesy Cheesy

WO's for portable PA
All horns are closer to a bass reflex and I am just figuring that out.

it is too bad that thread for "WO32 finally finished" by john K? is gone.
Or am I missing it.
It has all the info on the WO32 with some peerless woofers, the 727 ( last digits)

I looked back and the info from JohnK is gone but here is a link to his standard sized Decware IMP sub that hold two 18".
he said the horn array makes them look small. ( ya no kidding John )
I think they are a little wider and thats about it.
