Title: 2021 fest call out for the dogs
Post by Donnie on 08/26/21 at 22:54:45

So when is everyone planning to be at the fest this year?

I took the whole week before off just to be able to make the one hour and twenty two minute drive to E.P.

We don't get out very much around here anymore.

So the plan is to hit 75 South Riverview Drive about 12:28 PM on Friday the first.
I'll see whoever is there then. And If I don't see you, well your loss, I'm kinda unforgettable.

I just received an email from "Decware" with the subject "DECFEST 2021".
It wants me to download a .pdf file.

I don't think so .....

It looks like spam / malware to me .....

Has anyone else received this ?

Randy

Mine arrived in my "suspect" mail folder.

I downloaded and opened it, no issues.

It lays out the event as far as times, parking, listening areas, food and of course what equipment will be on deck.

I just ran it through my Malware filter, it came up clean!

I'm hoping to get there early enough that I don't need to park in the "Hobo Jungle"!

If you were on the RSVP list for this years fest, we sent out a pdf file with details unique to this years fest.  Please read it.  We will re-send this again several days before the fest to catch those who haven't signed up yet.

We are happy to be able to confirm that we will have the Rogers LS35A's - the originals from the BBC as well as the Classic Special Edition LS5/9SE.  These are world class and timeless speakers that will be displayed on the Panzerholz stands which  like the speakers are not cheap.  I think of the price of these speakers/stands like this:  If you want a 1969 Z28 in factory showroom condition with certification, it's going cost a bit.  Frankly I can see many people going for it not only because of the nostalgia but the sound is hard to argue with.  Very special.

https://www.rogers-hifi.uk/rogers-ls59-classic-speakers

https://www.rogers-hifi.uk/rogers-ls35a-classic-speakers

Despite the lower efficiency, these speakers actually sound good on our 20 and 40 watt amplification - in fact they sound very good on it. For this reason we are working to add these original nostalgic speakers to our offerings this winter just to spice things up a bit...  We will see how well they are received at this years fest and take it from there.

The Rogers LS3/5A's are what my Continuum II's are based off of.
They are a very nice sounding monitor, in fact I'm listening to mine as I type this.
They pair well with my Torii. I might need to bring mine to compare and contrast to the real things.
Mine cost around $2500 less though, so my expectations are fairly low.

Also, a buddy of mine has a real '69 Z28, 302 4 speed and yes it is beautiful and expensive.
The bad thing is his wife's V6 Camery blows it out of the water performance wise.

But the Camaro sure is pretty and rumbles menacingly.
The march of time keeps on going and going.

Hi! My name is Broch, and I live just up the river from Peoria, about an hour away. I'm interested in registering to come down to Decfest this year. Should I just call the office to put in a registration?

Hi Broch. I’m not sure if the cap of 150 people has been hit or not, but here is the registration link:

Thank you! I just got registered!

So who all are coming besides me and Broch?

Are there going to be a bunch of newbies? Some of the old regulars?

Does anybody have anything interesting to bring?

Did anyone else notice that Steve said something about some larger 945's, kinda reminds me of my "Rocker" speakers.

I registered but unfortunately, the "job" is getting in the way and so wont be able to make it.  How can I "unregister" to allow others to sign up if the limit is reached?

Simply go back to the DECFEST site, log in, and change your status to "not going".  That will automatically open up a slot for someone else.

Thanks,

Steve

The new DM945 prototypes.   Keep in mind, that we have been going to raise the price on the DM945 for years... and are at present making almost nothing on a pair.  The price is more in line at 1495.00 a pair, so if we keep them, you can look forward to that being the new price.  With that realization we thought about ways to make it even better.  Like perhaps so much so that there would be less reason to consider a floor standing version of it, like the DNA2 for example.  So I have been working on a stand mounted design that falls in between the two.

These will be available during the fest as well the originals and the DNA2, so someone might want to get into an evaluation of the three to see where these new ones fall.

When I listen to these, there are many things that are notable...  The rear stage, the bass extension, weight and texture. I have not installed the phase guide to take them to the next level yet, because the sound as is becomes so compelling that I am reluctant to change it.

Pretty sure these will be the new DM945's... model number yet to be determined... but we need your feedback to see if the extra cost is worth it.  We expect the price of these to be around $1600 a pair.

Steve

The inside of these cabinets is more impressive than the outside.  Besides the standard bracing you might expect, we have added an additional 21 braces to the cabinet made from dense hardwood and glued to the inside of the radius. These are about 1.5 inches apart in two rows.  Then we take hi-tech absorptive foam speaker liner, and cut it into 1 inch strips and drop each strip in-between the braces with about an 1/8 inch gap around the entire strip. This changes the absorption from the face, to the face and four sides.  The combination is pretty exotic in the way it handles energy in the side walls and diffusion in the interior.

You hear a lot of midrange from the rear port and it sounds clear, not congested. Evidence of the success of this type of damping and rear wave management.  It's a serious step beyond the original DM945 cabinet so we hope you like it!

We have sent out a pdf file to everyone on the registration list but with new people just registering, we will need to resend it  and link to it here.

https://www.decware.com/newsite/DECFEST2021.pdf

Please understand that Covid restrictions in our state are changing all the time. So far everything in the PDF is still accurate.

We will have the fest spread out with two / three listening areas, and outside space. There will be lots of hand sanitizer around, and free masks for anyone who wants one. Each person who attends is responsible for their own safety and understands the risk of attending an event.

That said, most of us have been vaccinated, or had Covid and have an immunity to it that after 9 months is still testing many times stronger than those who have had shots...  this means in this small gathering of responsible adults we know many will not be wearing masks because they are immune. That said, if you are worried about getting Covid, the Flu, or anything else but want to attend the fest and demand everyone else be wearing a mask or have vaccine cards upon request, please don't attend.

We have everyones safety at first and foremost so we are letting you know that people from all around the country are going to descend on Decware for 3 days, which is not somewhere a person would go who is afraid of getting Covid or the Flu.

Since the beginning, we have used ultraviolet sterilization to kill airborne virus in our facility at the front door where all packages are received and shipped and people enter. Also as many of you know, I have been broadcasting the two known frequencies that kill covid into our space for over a year.

Steve

What about protection from catching the delta strain of the audiophile bug?  How will you protect against that!   ;D

Not to scare you or anything, but, we will be actively spreading the audio bug. The only known treatment is decware gear.  ;D

DeVon, your news is not new.  The bug you speak of has been present for years at Deckfest.  Having been infected myself, I find the only downside is the effect on my checkbook!

The only way to survive is with annual booster injections of new equipment!

Title: Re: 2021 fest call out for the dogs
Post by SteveB on 09/20/21 at 03:51:10

New gear is not needed for a "booster" just tube rolling and maybe some new cables from Decware. Due to the current backlog of equipment we need to make sure those who don't have the gear get what they need to survive the bug.

Sadly I will not be able to attend.  I had originally  planned on going, but with my 10 year old not vaccinated, I have refrained from traveling.

But I will be tuning into the live feed all weekend for pure enjoyment, as  I have been doing for the past 8 years.  I always come away with some great music that was played and to add to my streaming services.

this link just takes me to the Decware homepage....

Also... Steve... I went back to the signup page, after reading the above about how to unregister, just to see if I showed up - and it let me signup again - it did not tell me that I had already signed up......

Well I'm getting excited!

I'll be leaving home in about a hour and a half to trek north towards East Peoria.

I'm hoping to see many of you folks up there!

I will be curious to hear how the new DM945 prototypes compare to the Tube Tots.

Anyone want to share their observations about the tube tots and the prototype dm945?

DPC:  what are you replacing and what kind of room are you planning to use them in?

Title: Re: 2021 fest call out for the dogs
Post by DPC on 10/04/21 at 09:24:56

Replacing a pair of Mordaunt-Short bookshelf speakers.

The room is 10' x 12' that has been treated with many diffusers, absorbers and bass traps.

The system is a Roku, Sony XB 65" TV and a SE84C+ with mods.
