Streamer, amp, speakers; such a simple, beautiful rig.

What brought you to Corvallis? I worked at OSU 2001-2005 as the IT person for the athletic department. Didn't make a lot of money, but it was the most fun job I've ever had.

Go Beavs!

David

Hi David,

Thanks for saying that. The speakers sound great in just the right sized room for the Rl-3's.

My wife accepted a job here after we both agreed this would be a nice place to live and work for now. Love it so far and look forward to some pac 12 sports after Covid goes away. Bet that was a great job.

Bought the speakers directly from Bob. Z. while he was living in AZ getting to audition and see them being made. I added the fanciest Mundorf 3.3 cap and Mundorf 1 db. resistor

Amp was purchased specifically for a pair of Maggie 3.6r that I sold just before moving here.  Probably time to think about some nice decware mono amps ::) streanmer/dac/preamp came as a response to an attempt to get back into vinyl late last decade.  >:(

Why is it that high powered amps make efficient speakers sounds so dynamic?

Thanks

Hey Welcome,

It is sure cool to see someone else with the RL3 speakers!

I have had mine for over 15 years and find that in the right room they are as good as anything I have heard.  I am ashamed to say there are more speakers in this house than any person should have.  That includes Maggies, LaScalas and many open baffles.  They all have their place but the RL3's get the majority of listening time.

Richard,

Wow, a blast from the past, for sure.  Your RL-3's still look fantastic. We've come a long way since the RL-3's With the HR-II's coming soon.

"Why is it that high powered amps make efficient speakers sounds so dynamic? "

Exactly! My big rig is now Atma-sphere M60s pushing Zu Druid V. I tried lots of lower powered amps that were good but not great. I A-Bed a Torii Mk IV against the M60s for more than a year before deciding on the M60s. The Torii was fantastic, just very different, and I ended up preferring the M60s. The big revelation was how much better the Druids sounded with more power, even though they're rated at 101dB. They handle anything I throw at them with no strain whatsoever.

High efficiency + high power = heaven.
