Title: ZP3 and MC Cartridge question
Post by ANS on 10/11/20 at 16:54:49

I ordered a ZP3, then purchased an Acoustic Signature Primus turntable with an MCX1 Cartridge.  The specs for the Cartridge is in the photo attached.

Can someone help clarify if ZMC's are required for MC Cartridge to be used with the ZP3?  If so, based on the specs of my cartridge which ZMC would I need?

Thanks so much for your help.

Yes, You will need a SUT (Step Up Transformer) The ZMC1 is the correct match for that cartridge.

Congrats on the major upgrades!

What are you using for a phono stage while you wait?

Thanks for the response.  I was using the Art DJPREII with my Fluance turntable.  However, now that  I am changing to an MC Cartridge I think I need to get a new temporary Preamp.
Do you have a recommendation for a cheap photo preamp for MC Cartridge until my ZP3 comes?

When I was waiting for my ZMC1, I was able to still use my MC cart by turning my CSP3 WAY up.  The only downside was additional noise since the gain amplified any ZP3 noise.  If you don't have a monster pre, than IDK other than keeping the MM cart (assuming you have one) until the ZMC1 arrives.  The ZMCs are fairly simple and maybe Steve would get one out the door ahead of some of the other equipment on the build list?

That's a great idea.  I can use the ZMC together with the cheap Preamp.  Thanks!  I'll contact them and see.
