Title: 6L6 vs 6V6
Post by s3steve on 09/18/20 at 13:38:05

Has anybody tried a 6V6 in this amp?
Can it be done?

The manual lists 6L6's can be used but there is no mention of 6V6 in the SE34I.5.

I have some old National Union 6V6's I thought I try but since they're not listed as alternative I didn't want to just throw them in and possibly damage them or the amp.

s3steve - While I have tried 6L6's in our Rachael, I wasn't too impressed and went back to the EL34's until I found out that with an adaptor you can run 807's. I used to sell some VTL amps that ran 807's and loved them. To me, Rachael sounds great with the 807, but thank goodness we each have our own taste and Decware can usually work with those choices. Report back what you find out, it's what makes this forum so great. Happy listening, Chris.

6V6 is a no-go in the Rachel. I use 807 tubes in my Mini Torii and they sound really nice as well.

Even though I am still burning in the PSVANE EL34's, I bought a set of National Union 807. What a difference, very detailed high end, almost airy like! Especially compared to the EL's. The PSVANE's definitively have a more authoritative bass. More comparative study is required!

I am running National Unions from 1951 right now in my Mini Torii. I agree they are nice detailed and almost airy.

Hey Rivieraranch,

How do I decipher  the date code on these?

You cut off the top cap! That is the best part.
