Title: Stock Power Cord?
Post by thethanimal on 04/24/20 at 03:15:32

I can’t find any information on the power cord that is included with the SE84UFO. Is it something generic, or the DHC-1 that’s offered separately? With the wait times I figured I might order them together if needed.

It is not the DHC-1 but a more basic cable.

Thank for the info. Would you recommend DHC-1, the copper capacitor, or the beeswax bypass mod as the best bang for the buck? I think I’d only want to swing for one of those options right now.

If it makes a difference, my source is a Bluesound Node 2i with AudioQuest Evergreen interconnects, all plugged in to a AudioQuest PowerQuest 2.

I'm not familiar with that equipment but I will say that all three of those options are worthwhile but would suggest that if only one could be done. .. I'd have the bypass option done. It truly transforms the ampifiers and preamplifeirs I have had them incorporated with.

Are the copper capacitor and bypass mods the “25th anniversary mods” I’m reading about on other threads?

The 25th Anniversary Mods are capacitors that by-pass the power supply capaictors. They can be stock  or Jupiter (type 1 which are aluminum foil, type 2 which are copper) capacitors. So on some models you have an option of stock power capacitors or Jupiter of either type, and the "25th Anniversary mods" will be with whatever capacitor option you chose for the power supply.

It would be nice if we had a FAQ sheet about the mods!

While we’re on this subject, I can never find the list on this forum for the mod costs for each component. Lon, can you please post that.

Thanks!

I can't find it speedily either. . . I'll see if I can find it and post it in a bit, I'm a litle busy at the moment. Really we need something permanent and definitive from Steve.

Okay I found them on my laptop. Here's the first page.

The second.

Thanks, Lon. I’ll save them this time so I can keep up with them.

I am wondering if those modification price sheets Lon saved might not have disappeared on purpose. I could not find them on the site for the life of me several weeks ago, though I know they were there at one point. Might have just missed them.

But then I noticed that if you put an amp or something in the Decware Shopping Cart, options there include bypass mods, at least on the few things I checked out.

I often put things in my cart to check prices.  Keep in mind that the price is different for mods done on a new amp versus an existing amp.

Good point! Thanks.

Thanks all. So if I get both the copper beeswax cap and bypass mods it sounds like that’s somewhat close to the 25th model, minus tube power conditioning, some topology difference with the inputs, and cosmetics? There’s just no way I could get the 25th, but hoping the upgraded base model could get me 90% of the way there.

I’m considering buying a used CSP3, and wanted to have in mind what the mod costs would be.

At this point, I’m not sure if the unit I’m interested in has film caps, or the standard beeswax. The seller is the second owner, and is not sure. He says that it was advertised as a “standard unit” on eBay, so not exactly sure.

Does anyone know if I can check with the mothership and provide the name, serial #, and original date for an answer to this question?

Thanimal, pardon for cutting in on your post. Your questions just happened to be on topic for me too.

I would say you are correct. You may get more than 90 percent there.

I have had SE84UFO3 Monoblocks built with the anniversary mods as well as a CSP3. I love these components and use them every day. I also had the mods added to a Taboo Mk IV and a CSP2+ both of which I owned previously in "unmodded" form. I love these as well and use them nearly every day. The mods are the real deal in my opinion, they transform the component.
